I've seen articles and studies stating those who adhere to their prescription medications have longer remissions than those who do not. I would argue the odds are good that you'd still be in remission had you continued an asacol/meslamine regiment as prescribed. Now, you're on remicade due to noncompliance.
As long as your immune system is attacking you, inflammation is caused and your medications are treating it.
in my case, following protocol didn't work out either. I am not sure I buy any of it anymore. Sure, it's good to stay on the meds if they are working for you, but I don't believe that you will not progress simply because you stay on them. My UC did progressed regardless of treatment. It's so complicated. No one has any clue.
