Hi all, I am back… I received my results and got the records from the GI. He gave me no real explanation, other than having the office assistant call to say my biopsies were normal and all ok. He is not the most helpful or pleasant individual. nono I have an appointment with a new GI just for consult on Thursday who will look at everything as well, but he is a regular GI, not really an integrative Dr…. I plan to return to my integrative Dr for a real treatment plan to manage any remaining inflammation end of aug when I get new insurance that she takes.

But, in the meantime, would be helpful to sort some of this out… I guess it is possible to have proctitis, without a full blown IBD diagnosis? The blood work is all within normal range, my c-reactive protein is .67 (he said that was slightly elevated but still below a 1 so tech normal?) and that was 5 mins after the scope that the blood was taken, and I was irritated from the prep.

The biopsies of the colon parts were normal, no significant changes, negative for inflammation or celiac.

The distal rectum biopsy showed mild chronic active proctitis including acute cryptitis, mild crypt architectural distortion, and lynphoplasmacytic inflammation in lamina propria. No granuloma and no dysplasia.

No mention of consistent with UP or UC or IBD… so am trying to figure this out. My family(mother and brother) has a history of IBS and non-specific colitis which resolved on its own in both cases, with no diagnosis of IBD…

Any ideas or info is helpful… thank you in advance…. this forum has been helpful to me, just reading others' experiences has given more more info than the Dr, somehow… so even tho I am not posting much, please accept my thank yous for your presence smilewinkgrin

It is possible to have just acute proctitus and not IBD. In fact, your report seems to show that this is the case.

Oh also… I am using anusol HC suppositories, which seem to be helping to some degree.. but I guess it will take some time? I have a one month supply of them, will ask the dr about it thurs. Does anyone know how long it can take for the little bits of blood to go away? I have days with nada but some when theres a little on the tissue… That is my only symptom.

I just started one week ago. I also have Canasa but am waiting for the GI consult Thurs to see about that….

Ok thanks… that is helpful..I guess my question has been that, whether the pathology report would indicate whether there was some suspicion of IBD, so if its not on there, then perhaps not… this is all very confusing! I have generally been healthy with some gerd and stressy tummy now and then over the years, so I am trying to make heads or tails! Thank you!!!

My UC was initially diagnosed as proctitis. Eventually in my case it spread but they said it was a 10% chance that would happen. guess I am in the unlucky 10%.

Ugh sorry :( I guess only time will tell if it will go away or become worse… I can definitely see the correlation with stress, I have to get better at managing that, I've done it before and will do it again… And I tried that citrucel stuff, but I don't think it helped, I think it actually bothered my tummy… are there any other fiber-y things that might be better than citrucel? I almost felt it expanding in me when I drank it

Where I live they do a blood test to check for Celiac's Disease...depending on the results depends on whether you get scoped...I'll tell you something weird though (which makes me suspicious of my hubby) Hubby went to the doctor and told symptoms he was having and te doctor set him up for a sigmoidoscopy {strange eh} and he told hubby right then and there because he wasn't under any sedation since it wasn't a C-scope, that he had Celiacs....

And I know that Celiacs affects the small intestine so how the heck would the doc scoping his sigmoid, know that? What do you guys think?

Sorry not trying to hijack this thread but it just came to mind when I saw the 2 replies above me ^ ^

Newness, you can use psyllium seed powder for fiber. Many have good luck with it, it will bulk the stool. Use the little search box on the upper right and search for it. Lots of threads on it. As for the above he/she must have had an upper and lower GI scope.
