Had 1 month of no Blood then came back little in between Ene....no IBS since Sept, then after 2 day car trip and climbing to 9000 elevation had Hellacious IBS Sun nite, both ends going, Hate it! Couldn't keep pills down, Mon was Gatorade & cracker day.little soup yesterday & today getting my strength back. Still diarrhea & lotta trips, but at least no more Nausea!

Yesterday went downhill as day went on...D got worse in evening & only had Gatorade for dinner, finally abt 10pm took 2 Imodium I found & have no idea how old they were, but seemed to work or I had run out of D one! Took my Colazal soon after, had a cracker so it wouldn't be on empty tummy then followed by my Ene little later.

Thinking I will call Dr tomorrow to ask if I can continue the Enes nitely for a wk or 2 instead of 3xwk. As I'm afraid I'm headed for a flare and don't want to take Pred again, if I can avoid it this way. Do ya'll think nitely Enes will stop D??
Having insomnia, just Thinking abt Pred! 😖 read it's symptom of altitude sickness too.....

Nightly enemas and calling your gastroenterologist sound like a great start. I'd ask for a stool test, just to make sure cdiff (or something similar) isn't the cause of your recent, dramatic change in symptoms.

Thanks for your response. I've had IBS for yrs, seemed to worsen with age, and then with UC added. Had recently posted on here giving credit to my Probiotic for not having it in so long! Traveling has seemed to be a trigger at times.....with UC Seems more difficult to get D under control after an IBS attack which adds much Stress!

Update, I'm feeling much better! Can't remember last time I took Imodium, way before UC, may not be best in some cases, but it gave me & my hemmes much needed Relief! Was little concerned 2nd day after with no real BM, but had a small one that wasn't Watery this morning, so hoping things are getting back to My norm.
These episodes actually make me appreciate my Norm!😬😉

I hear you Julie!!! It sucks having two separate gut issues to deal with when they coexist with one another....I too have IBS though mine's more on the constipation side but does on occasion turn to diarrhea, I also have lactose intolerance but thankfully lactaid products aid with that...wish it was that easy for the IBS, especially since mine is very stress driven and not really food driven. I finally have my crohn's colitis in remission but still working on the IBS and I have no idea how long it will take to resolve it to at least a point where it's more manageable. It definitely can be a vicious circle.

Pb4, Thanks for your reply! Tho IBS isn't seen as a serious disease as IBD, feels serious to me when I'm sittin on pot with my head over the trash basket, after umpteen trips ESP! It coulda been traveling, food or Stress or combo this time. I had constipation for many yrs too....took Metamucil 2-3 decades, then thought it was making IBS worse.....my BM's have always been irregular and even now with UC, can go from 0-4 one day to next.....thought the Slippery Elm &'Probiotic was keeping me fairly stable til this last attack....I panic more now bcuz I'm afraid IBS attack will send me into a UC flare....just have to keep working on it! I'm trying to do smaller meals now, have a friend who is in remission and her evening meal ESP was abt 2 Tablespoons! Good Luck to you with your IBS!

Yes, it's like fighting a losing battle day after day, decade after decade, so very frustrating fir sure....my GI actually said to me last time I saw him that treating IBD was easier in comparison to IBS due to the better meds (referring to biologics) used for IBD and that with IBS especially if it's more on the high side of being stress-driven, was tougher to combat since life in general is stressful lol...it's like your darned no matter what you do though, especially when having to deal with both.

Just curious- how did your GI determine that you had IBS on top of your UC? I am currently taking remicade, but with symtoms not improving my doctor had mentioned that there could possibly be other factors involved (IBS). He is not saying IBS is the only option (I am getting another colonoscopy to look at the UC to determine if the remicade just isnt working well enough) but I am curious how they diagnose IBS on top of UC?

hwhitham, I was diagnosed with IBS 30+ yrs ago, after many upper/lower Gi's, before that they called it Nervous stomach, think its when they rule out a disease, can't make another diagnosis, they call it IBS. I had constipation and Hemorrhoids when I was in my 20's, took Metamucil abt 3'decades, had Hemorrhoid surgery mid 30's. For yrs my IBS flares happened maybe 2-3 times a yr, and would be mostly cramping, gas, then would have diarrhea, sometimes nausea...as I got older increased in frequency. Mostly happened at night, sometimes after I had been asleep, would wake up thinking I'm gonna throw up, then would have both. Haven't kept count, but have had many episodes & hrs on the pot with trash basket in my lap. Think this last one lasted longest 10:30 pm-4:30am..abt 15+ trips, with very little sleep in between. I use to think maybe a virus or food poisoning, but have such a long history of it, just think it's IBS now.
