Kelina: I have gone through a painstakingly long process over many years of fine tuning my protocol which helps me. I do not take anything and never have that I'm not 100% sure helps me. I think way too many people take a bunch of stuff and they don't really know if it does anything or not. Maybe they read somewhere that something is an anti-inflammatory, probiotic, etc. so they take it and keep on taking it even if they have no idea if it's helping or not. I don't do that. I add one new thing at a time to my protocol. If it makes me worse, I dump it. If it hasn't proven that it makes me better, I dump it. Then I add one more thing and start the process all over again.
So, yes, I take three different probiotics and they ALL help me to some degree. What a lot of people don't seem to realize is that probiotics are not probiotics. That's like saying that hamburgers are hamburgers or french fries are french fries. I'm not sure what you mean by "flora". Most UC'rs that have success with a particular probiotic take mega doses of 50 billion CFU's or more per day. Florastor made me worse. While Align is a great probiotic for a healthy person to take it is like one drop in the Pacific ocean for a UC'r, pretty worthless for most of us. Unfortunately, everyone is different so different probiotics work in different people but most everyone finds one that helps their condition. It is best to start at a lower dose and work your way up because they can make you gassy and bloated until your system gets used to them. Only trial and error will let you know if they help or hurt or don't do anything one way or the other.
