Interesting... Thanks Mike. I do have some MTFHR mutations, which are known to interfere with methlyation pathways, preventing the body's natural antioxidant processes from working properly. That's something I took from PathogenKiller's posts originally. I got tested with 23andme. Maybe that's all it takes to be "genetically susceptible"?
At first, I basically did everything possible to end the inflammatory cycle, which for me meant a week's course of pred enemas to get things under control, an anti-inflammatory diet (which I was pretty strict with) and herbs. Cat's claw, nettle and Qing Dai initially brought everything back to normal and much faster than I expected. As a last resort, I had planned to purchase generic Bupropion from Canada. It's not illegal to do that but it isn't very safe either so thankfully, I got a good response with herbs.
Then I began with the protocol. These are the two things I did differently from what Briggs recommends:
1. I ate less veg than was recommended, instead replacing some of it with powdered organic fibre supplements. That's literally just because I couldn't stomach that much veg. The powdered fibre contained the types mentioned in Phase 2 point A.
2. I drank whiskey once a week, even though all alcohol was meant to be avoided.
I'm in a very stable remission at the moment where I'm eating anything I want but I reckon I need to be on my current supplement regime for a good year before I decide to drop anything. That said, I won't be re-introducing seeds (except seed butter) or nuts for some time, although I didn't eat these pre-UC anyway. I also still take 4.8g Mesavant XL daily.
It may or may not be relevant but before I started any of this, I also did a general detox protocol which included WOO & Thyme Oil. I mention that just in case it helped to destroy a lot of "bad" bacteria without me realising it.
