Yakult, good or bad for UC sufferers?

Hi everyone,

I am asking a question as to whether or not Yakult is good or bad for we UC sufferers?

Living in China I do not have easy access to all the fancy drugs and probiotics that are easily
available over the counter in the west, and of late my UC has worsened!

Currently I am only using Chinese medicine in pill form and occasionally taking Glutamin for healing
purposes, but I am not sure it does very much!

Anyway I notice that lots of people on here take probiotics which is basically good milk bacteria, so
I thought I'd give Yakult a try, but I am always a bit concerned when I add things to my diet.

So I'd be pleased to receive any advice.

I tried yakult once and it seemed to be very sweet. It's gotta be loaded with sugar. I can't imagine it's good for people with UC. not that any of it has ever made a difference for me.

Are you able to order things online internationally? I have a problem getting things such as VSL#3 as I'm in Australia however I buy it on eBay from the U.S. and get it delivered - it's not cheap but worth it to get well! However I would also be interested to know whether Yakult is beneficial

I was rather surprised to read that in a place like Australia you have trouble buying anything!

Yes I can order products on-line but with something like VSL3 there is a problem.
Being bacteria it should be kept very cool to maintain viability, but on such a long journey from the
USA this is impossible unless it is packed in an insulated coolpack.

Is this what your supplier does?

Crumbs is it expensive, I was shocked at the price is it really that good?

With regard to the Yakult I have only just in the last few days started drinking it, morning and evening
so I am not sure how good (beneficial) it is yet.

I buy my VSL3 directly from the VSL3 website and it is shipped in a styrofoam box with coldpacks inside. I live in Louisville and the warehouse they ship from is in Louisville. When it gets to me it is plenty cool but the coldpacks inside have already completely melted. I don't believe they ship overseas at all, probably due to this reason. You could check with VSL but you would probably have to get if from a third party and who knows what they do or how long it would last if they did ship it cool.

Yes I guess that I am not going to be able to try VSL#3 as it would appear that it must be kept at least cool during it's time in transit.
VSL#3 in the U.K. will not post to overseas addresses and they say that they will not even post to a U.K. address if the temperature hits 30C.

Added to this I am pretty sure it is not made under licence here in China at the moment.

Yes China may be no. 2 in the world GDP but many things lag far behind the west here, especially healthcare and healthcare products!
