Well, met my surgeon and scheduled step one of my surgery. Is it bad to be excited?

Not at all, I wish you all the best Kate. Soon you'll be 'cured' and that is something to certainly be happy about!

I was terrified and excited at the same time! Definitely a mix of emotions. Best of luck.... Having surgery was the best thing I ever did in regards to dealing with my UC. It's not easy but the end result is worth it.

It's good to be excited. I had step one a couple months ago, going to have step 2 soon. I am having 3 step though so I still have a ways to go :( I really wanted it over and done with by the end - once my surgery was scheduled, being free of UC became real and I wanted it so badly. Nothing worked for me and I was sick of being sick!

You should be excited about giving UC the heave-ho. Good luck. You've just started the first day of the rest of your life.

Thanks yall! I've gotten a lot of flack from people outside of my family. I don't think they understand what us UCers go through, they think I just eat bad and have an upset stomach. Part one is scheduled for sept 10th. The Doctor went over the basics of what I can expect after surgery, especially the lifting restrictions as I have a 10 month old. What was your recovery like for those of you who have had surgery or are going through it now?

Awe, that's terrible!! You should be getting support from people outside your family, I just don't understand some people....don't mind people like that because you should be supported by everyone that knows you. You should mention this on the Ostomy forum as well in case you haven't yet, as I'm sure you'll find a tond of answers and support as well.

Will be keeping you in my thoughts!

I get so angry when I hear that friends and family don't take UC seriously. Fortunately, mine do - but if they didn't, I think I'd show them a picture of what's in the toilet while flaring.

Forget about all the static noise from the normies that just don't get it, focus on a uc-free future ahead of you that's free from meds, flares, and uc uncertainty.

Thank you all! Every day it gets closer, I get more nervous. I just try to keep reminding myself that they don't poop blood multiple times a day, or have had to be on various doses of prednisone, remicade and methotrexate (all unsuccessful btw) for the past year, they haven't sat back and watched their baby grow from a distance bc they were too sick and weak to care for him. Basically, their arguments are invalid.

I appreciate all the love and support here! I know I haven't posted much, but I've lurked since my first hospital stay in 2012 and I attribute a lot of my being able to handle UC for as long as I have to knowing you guys are here and we all support each other 😊

Good luck to you Katehugs713. It is exciting to be getting your life back but at the same time it is OK to be nervous about the surgery and what happens next. The Ostomy board is a wonderful resource for support and information. Pay no attention to "normal" people. I think people care, they just have no idea what you are going through. I don't think anyone can truly understand UC until you have lived it. I know my dad and fiance seemed shocked when the doctor at Cleveland Clinic told them it looked like a bomb went off in my large intestine and there were no options other than surgery. It was like they couldn't grasp what I was going through until the doctor confirmed it. You will get through these surgeries, it seems like when you are going through it is a long process. However, it will be a small window of time when you are done. Are you have the surgeries in 3 steps or 2? I had 3 due to my prednisone dependence. It was amazing to me how quickly I got to feeling better after my first surgery. I am 6 months from my last surgery and my life is great. I am able to do whatever I want to do. I am always interested to hear how people are getting along after their surgeries, so please check back.
