UGH! Tomorrow will be my third scope. The prep they gave me this time (some generic thing) is horrible and I have to drink 4 liters of it, 2 of them in the am. I drank it like three hours ago and have barely pooped. They also said I could add crystal light packets to the stuff and when I did it made it like a thousand times worse. Pretty sure I'm gonna throw up when I try to drink it so early (5 am, they said to do it 5 hours before I leave for my procedure??). Is there anything I can do to make it easier??

i noticed keeping an ice pack on my chest and stomach helped with the nausea. i started my prep monday night for my scope on wednesday afternoon. i knew it would need time to work so im glad i started it early. i didnt even start pooping until tuesday night. it helped breaking it up and drinking it at four different times so i wasnt overloading my belly.

i hope you get some good drugs and good news!

Dang. My scope is 11am tomorrow. Hope I get cleaned out. I also have a cold and am pmsing so I'm just mad about everything. Nausea is only while I'm drinking it, otherwise I'm fine. Maybe I can drink some more before I go to bed. BLECHHH

I don't want this crap next time! I want the old stuff I could have with gatorade!

What helps me drink the nasty pep is to have it ice cold and drink with a straw placed under my tongue then you can't taste it 🙀

Well I'm two cups shy of the whole four liters. My scope is in three hours and it is nowhere near clear and there's still solid stuff!

I don't understand why people use preps they are given if the know of better ones. Two small bottles of Mag Citrate - seldom a problem.

I didn't know it was different until I got home and looked at it... I remember drinking about this much liquid before but it wasn't this.

Oh no! I hope your scope can go on as planned, it would be terrible to have to do the prep process a second time. I agree that Mag Citrate is a great prep. That's what I used and while it took a few hours to start working, it really worked and didn't taste terrible.

Ask for zofran. I am surprised they did not offer it to you. It works wonders for nausea.

Elpis, I have some but like I said, it was only during the drinking cuz of the taste.

Anyways so I got there, and they took my vitals and the girl asked "is your heart rate always fast?" So I said yes, but she hadn't told me the actual number. (Usually about 95 but this was much higher I guess.)

I get back there and its like 137! They give me Benadryl (they said for my heart rate but then it jumped to 142! and they said it's normal for Benadryl to do that, so idgi). They're like "omg have you ever seen a cardiologist" and I said no, only been tested for thyroid problems because of my heart rate. Then they gave me the sleepy stuff and it must have gone down. During the procedure I remember making discomfort noises and the doctor saying "Can't any of these go right today?" (he had been running an hour behind). They had to suction out all the leftovers that the prep didn't get out. Needless to say I won't be using that prep again.

My rate was down to 111 I believe, when I was let out. They gave me IV fluids which helped, I think. I think I was pretty dehydrated, + a cold, no sleep, no food. Feeling okay now except for a sore butt.

Aw, EP, sorry to hear that you had a yuck time due to scope! Can you use Miralax with liquid? I found that to be the least troublesome-- so far. Let us know how your report turns out. Also, I hope you get rid of the cold; no wonder you felt dehydrated. I've been fighting off ragweed pollen allergy, which is at least as frustrating to deal with. Gastro said last yr that I could take Zyrtec safely, but this yr just 1 tablet gave me a croupy cough-- in place of watery eyes, runny nose, & sneezing. Ugh! / Old Hat (35 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Definitely ask about just taking a huge dose of Miralax next time. It always works for me. I am prepping right now for a scope tomorrow at 12:30. Good luck with your results!

Pretty sure that's what I used to get, so yeah. No more nulytely. I also read it can cause a fast/irregular heartbeat so, extra no.

He said everything looked good-just waiting on biopsies.

Weird about the Zyrtec old hat! Just puts me to sleep.

Funny that Zyrtec puts you to sleep. Usually type two antihistamines don't do that.
It's the type ones ( Benadryl) that tend to do that.
I think a contributing factor to fast heartbeat with colonoscopy prep is that it can dehydrate you which causes a fast heartbeat

Zyrtec lists fatigue as a possible side effect. Many moons ago a doctor put me on it because of it's non drowsy nature. about an hour or two after taking it (two times) I would be konked out and almost unresponsive for 5-6 hours. Put me out like an anesthesia before surgery. My wife and I finally figured out that it was the zyrtec doing that to me and I didn't take it again for years. When it eventually became available OTC I have taken it every now and then and to my surprise it had no drowsy effect on me. Maybe it was a lower dose or maybe my body just got used to it.

Yeah Zyrtec and Benadryl both knock me out. Claritin is fine tho. I thought they made a non drowsy version of Zyrtec but I could be making things up.

Dikid, I also read electrolyte imbalances can cause it, so I'm guessing it was everything going on at once? It was kind of scary though.

I was also tachachardic by my scope ( about 130-140)
They weren't concerned in the slightest
All though they weren't the greatest docs so I switched to a better hospital

My doctor didn't seem concerned and I respect him a lot. The nurse seemed pretty worried though (and I respected her too! lol). I hadn't had that issue the first two times.

I managed to go on an all day squirrel hunt for work yesterday and not die (but neither did any squirrels), so I guess I'm in the clear! redface
