Geneticgenie.org's report is much easier to read and understand than promethease.com's. But for only $5.00 there is no reason not to get as much interpretation that is available.

Maybe there are others here who know about other labs that can provide health-related information.

I looked into the genetic genie one and they only offer a "free methylation and/or detoxification profile" at the moment. I might send my info into them, because the promethease one has so much info and I get overwhelmed trying to sift through it all. I am at equal risk for MS, IBD, and Celiac, although I have never had a positive result for celiac disease when tested.

I also have an off topic question regarding 23andme. My wife and her oldest daughter both carry a mutated gene for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. My wife had a son who passed away with it. We have two younger daughters who have never been tested for the mutation and the regular channels we used before in the past claim that we can't test them until they are 18. Something about legalities of some kind. Could we get both of them tested through 23andme and Geneticgenie to see if they carry the mutation or not? Would they do it for persons under 18 or would we have to kind of lie about who was getting tested and their age? Would this process actually be able to determine if they have this particular mutation? We would like to know if they carry the mutation or not.

Garylouisville--I'm not sure if that disease is similar enough to Bloom's to be considered part of that group, but if it is it may mean you can get tested sooner. However I do not know of their age restrictions on their tests.

Some of what 23 and Me does not test for:

Repeats, insertions, or deletions
Resulting from the addition or loss of genetic material; includes Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and spinal muscular atrophy (SMA).

As our technology is not designed to analyze for repeated, inserted, inverted or deleted segments of DNA, in most cases we cannot provide information about copy number or other genetic features that are related to the number or order of base pairs present.

When i found out I carried one allele for MTHFR I spent $30 for a full methylation pathway analysis, my homeopath recommended the report, which is extensive. It can be found here:

again, it is helpful only with regards to your metabolism.

There is also NutraHacker which does advise as to helpful supplements for some of your genetic variances. I was shocked to learn I should avoid curcumin because it can contribute to the inhibition of dopamine in my case. The report costs $23, you can find it here:

I had Prometheus test in June. While I have info I can't say it's been very helpful. I had three out of four gene variants. Also other indicators. They said definitely UC. There is no interruption with results however.

Also I have submitted DNA to 23 and me as part of the ibd research. I was notified the have reached an agreement with the fda to expand the results. I'm anxiously awaiting results.

23 and me has reached agreement with FDA but those who signed up with IBD Initiative, I'm not sure whether we'll be able to access health report. Those of you who signed up for full membership might be accessible to health reports soon. Confused.

Got my 23andme results. 3.1 percent Neanderthal DNA, I'm in the 96th percentile lol. Mostly english/irish and german/french.

Maybe we're related. I have high Neanderthal and those exact lineages. I'm starting to think there's a Neanderthal proclivity to UC.

It would be neat if we were. What's your maternal haplogroup? Mine is H2a2.

I think there very well could be a link between high Neanderthal DNA and crohn's, uc, etc. Here's an article claiming just that:

H5 maternal, close no cigar.

The gene link between Neanderthal and Crohn's may explain why my health report says I have a higher possibility of Crohn's and a lower chance of UC. Huh? No GI ever questioned my UC diagnosis but then no meds have ever helped my UC either.

There are other UC'ers here with higher Neanderthal genes than general population.

23and me have fda approval to send some additional information. Anxious to see what ill get but I do believe any study is worth participation when it doesn't involve experimental drugs or blind studies
