Everytime I use Rowasa my symptoms the next day seem to be worse so I think I need to stop using it. I don't know how I feel about not using rectals but every time I use them (any of them) things get really irritated. Are they even needed with the remicade?
I'd try ditching the mesalamine rectals. During the small flare I had a year and a half ago, I became sensitive to mesalamine rectal meds. At first, I thought it was just the sulfate preservative in the Rowasa, but then I tried Canasa and noticed that I was worse the morning after using it, too. Basically, when I'd use a mesalamine rectal med at night, the next day I'd have double the BMs as if I didn't use anything, or if I'd used a steroid enema. I talked it over with my doctor, we agreed it didn't make sense for me to try the sulfate-free Rowasa, and I just used the steroid enemas nightly for a couple of weeks or so. I really don't remember how long. It's weird, because I'm obviously tolerating the Apriso just fine, since I'm in remission. I've thought about
trying a mesalamine enema sometime just to see what happens, but just haven't.
