OT - alternate tear duct

I have a completely blocked tear duct on the right side and I am going into surgery on December 15th. Has anyone here ever had an alternate tear duct put in? If so can you share your experience? To be honest this surgery is freaking me out because they are going in thru my nose, putting an incision in there and threading/looping a tubing into my tear duct that I have to wear for 3 months then after I will have a permanent tubing that drains into my nose. They say it's not known why this happens but because I have Dry Eye Syndrome due to my EIM's of my UC that the salt from tears likely caused a stone in the tear duct.

Oh wow....I've only heard of plugging the tear ducts to keep the tears from leaving the eyes. I don't know how it's done, however.

When are you supposed to have it done?

Advise him to start slow and , He is spending $`120.00 a month on his habit. I just hope it hasn't gotten so bad he can't recover from it. Thanks again

Sorry for the late reply (was traveling home from vacation) - but yes, surgery is the only option at this point. They tried to flush them by inserting saline needles into my tear duct but I had what they said 100% reflux and they said my blockage was halfway down into my lacrimal sac. And these surgeons are my second opinion and one of the best here in MI.

Q - my surgery is scheduled for December 15th. Look up DCR (dacryocystorhinostomy). This is the procedure I am having done. After this surgery I have to sleep sitting up for a week, can't bend at the waist nor pick anything up over 5lbs for a week either. And the most horrible thing?? I can't wear make up for 3 WEEKS! *gasp*! The horror! Lol

That sounds really tough. I too have only heard of opening it I never heard of them creating an alternate.
And maybe you can get away with lipstick 😜

Well, good luck to you. I hope you're smart and listen to those orders so try your best not to bend over to pick up stuff and take it easy! Eye problems are no fun. Best wishes.
