Vomitted colonoscopy prep--what do I do?

What should I do? I'm supposed to have a colonoscopy and endescopy in the morning. I've been waiting for this appointment for months so my GI can figure out what to do next. The prep is surprep, with one now and one in the morning. I immediately couldn't keep it down so I'm worried the same will happen in the morning. Does it matter? My BM today have only been liquid so will a colonoscopy still work if I can't keep the next dose down?

Ducolax. Anecdotal, on the colonoscopy brochure I receive prior to procedure it states to take the two prep bottles within 4 hours of each other then 2 ducolax tablets a few hours later. I'd make sure you keep down your next bottle. Maybe take a few ducolax tablets. You could always take some of the second bottle tonight and ring your office in the morning to see if they need to call in an additional script depending on how much you vomited back up? I'm no clinician so please don't take this as medical advice, but if I were you I'd make sure you keep that second dose down :) Good luck

Call the doctor office asap. There are other preps. You can take Miralax. Take 6 ducolax pills first. Once they work then. The 84oz bottle in a gallon of water and drink it all . But talk to doctor or surgical center. Should be an emergency number.

Your bm needs to be clear. You can try drinking the rest of the prep in a few hours, and see how you do. Best to just reschedule, and ask for a different brand of prep. The same thing happened to me recently. Don't worry, you'll be ok.

It's kind of late - but you can always just go down to the drug store and ask for Picolax and maybe two tablets of Ducolax. Drink it along with as much water or water/white grape juice/apple juice as you can.... it will flush everything out.

Picolax isn't to bad, easy to mix and drink. And you don't need a prescription for either. Just tell them you have a colonoscopy scheduled. They will give you the directions. The more clear liquid you get in you the better.

You can take it first thing in the morning tomorrow as well if you're really stuck and can't get anything tonight.

I had the exact same issue with my last prep. Call the after hours or emergency hotline.
Ask them what to do. If they are not being helpful ask them to call in a script for zofran.
And just Get 2 miralax or two bottles of magnesium citrate. Drink one bottle tonight and one on the morning.
Do two fleet enemas after you are done with the "prep"( let the on call GI know ur plan)

Because you are having Ds you can stop tonight's prep as soon as BMs are clear. Do the second one in the am because it can get funky overnight.

I had this happen to me on the morning of my scope. I was able to get the first half down just fine but in the morning I wasn't. I got me some saline enemas to clear out the rest and it was ok. I already had clear bm's in the morning.

Used Suprep for my last colonoscopy a few months ago. Also threw it up in the evening before and the day of my colonoscopy, but enough was able to get through to clean me out.
Told the Dr. at my appointment that I threw it up and he didn't act surprised. Seems like it's a fairly regular event.
That prep was just awful, will never do it again.
Asked my Dr. about doing a different prep, and he mentioned about doing Movieprep instead. Mentioned the Miralax prep can be very hard on the digestive system and they are trying to steer clear of it.

I threw up the morning of the scope too. I was worried about it but just kept up with the prep. Apparently it was all okay because I get going to the bathroom and they said I had been cleaned out enough to see.

Thanks so much everyone! That was so stressful! Luckily even though I tossed the first half of the prep immediately it still somehow stayed in my system. I made sure to drink the second part a lot slower with some sips of Gatorade to help with the awful taste. I sucked on hard candy which helped and it took about an hour to finish the second half. Found those tips on some random GI Doctor websites with instructions for their patients, wish I had had in advance!

I'm sorry you had to go through that. I will not be doing a liquid prep by po next time. I will insist on pills and if they won't do them ( bad for kidney) than I will have to have it by g tube

That sucks, Ginger! Next time, ask about Prepopik. Before I got my first scope, I told my doctor I'm really bad at drinking gross stuff, so that's the one he picked for me. I hope I can use it every time because it really is the easiest. It's a very small amount of prep liquid and doesn't taste bad. Then you just have to drink a lot of water.
