imuran side effects

My gastro started me on Imuran at 50mg. First side effect was bleeding with every BM. Then upped to
100 mg and then got severe headache, fatigue, hot and cold flashes, sore joints and a cough.(?) Plus the bleeding.
How do you safely get off this drug?

I doubt those side effects are due to Imuran, none of them are listed as known side effects of that medication. Likely, just your flare getting worse. Imuran takes 2-3 months to reach therapeutic range and have it's full healing effect. If you're earlier than that then I doubt Imuran is the cause.

It can be quit cold turkey. But don't do it without talking to your gastroenterologist, as you need a regular maintenance medication treatment plan for uc.

Just stop taking it ... But only if you're sure it's drug related.

I am asking this because before taking the first pill i was symptom free. Bm every other day, solid (remember
those days), no cramps, gas, blood. 12 hrs after taking the first pill there was blood on my stool. An ER doctor
told me hemorrhaging was a side effect. My gastro doesnt seem concerned. Anyone else have this side effect?

Just gotta ask....if you were symptom free why start taking it at all?
