HI
I have a sigmoidoscopy scheduled for 4 days time. Have been having loads of problems now for two months. I have had 6 antibiotics which I think have caused a flare. I have urgency and frequency issues and have possibly spotted the tiniest amount of blood this morning on the last of my 8 bowels movements since I got up this morning.
I feel so depressed now. Been trying so had to remain positive but today its finally got to me. Four days seems a lifetime to wait. I have been using lialda (3) and salofalk enemas for about
5 weeks now and things haven't improved. I know pred is the nasty but that's all I think will help now but I have got to wait for the scope.
I am worried that the scope will show nothing. Its crazy but I have had a clear scope before only to start flaring within days of having it. But with the symptoms I am having there must be something there mustn't there.
I have been relying on immodium to get to work but can't carry on taking this. It doesn't make my bowel movements any firmer but just allows me to get through my 7 hour work day.
I just need to rant alittle.

Here in the UK, it's not so easy to just get these medications without the okay of your consultant. They don't seem to just dish them out. They wont give me pred without having this look first. I suppose this is understandable.

It's OK to feel depressed and confused about
what's going on. Take that and create a list of questions. I would suggest your doctor to take a few biopsies while he's in there to make sure nothing else is possibly going on.
You can be assured that your symptoms do NOT speak of nothing going on.
Hang tough...to have the scope is a huge step better than them denying your symptoms.
Talk with your doctor before you go in, (demand to) watch the monitor and ask questions during the scope.

Just to note - I've had a couple of emergency sigmoids done with unplanned hospital admissions. In both cases I was given a drug which induced short term memory loss ... So watching the screen or asking questions was pointless. I had no memory - quite a bizarre experience... I was pre-warned (remember conversation before I lay down, remember leaving ... Rest is a loss). Apparently doc told me all at the end but also told my partner as he suspected I'd not recall ... And I didn't. So you may want to check what drugs they are giving you.
