I have a colonoscopy coming up next month, and my doctor wants me to use the Suprep prep. This is my 4th or 5th colonoscopy, and every other time I have either used citrate of magnesia or miralax. I absolutely hate the taste of citrate, but can usually manage to get most of it down. I have never had Suprep before, and I am worried about the taste. Has anyone used this prep, and how bad was the taste for you?

I heard it's a very easy one. I did prepopik last time, I believe they are similar. Very low quantity of stuff to drink and a lot of water. Much easier for me.

I've done lots of different ones & my last one was Suprep. For me, by far the easiest. It's the only one that I could tolerate the taste without feeling like I had to vomit. Very little to drink of the actual prep. I've read here that some hated the taste. It tastes like grape cough medicine to me. That is much more tolerable than that salty, briny taste of some of the others. I've not tried the Prepopik. I wonder how that compares to Suprep. My scope is coming up in Dec. & I'm doing Suprep again. I am debating if I should try the Prepopik, but I guess I should stick with the devil I know.

I did Suprep for my last prep and it didn't make me feel like I was going to vomit. The taste isn't awesome but tolerable and I took a couple swigs of ginger ale after each big gulp. Worked really well too.

I used it

Has a grape flavor. It didn't taste good by any means but wasn't too bad. I think I had to mix it with 16 ounces of water and do it twice. Just the fact that you were drinking 32 ounces of anything in a short period got to be a bit much but tolerable.

It's the only prep I've used though so nothing to compare it to.

I personally hate the taste but it is one of the "easier" preps. I just had a scope in June and used Suprep again. This was my second time using it and I am usually cleared out by the first bottle. But I eat light a few days prior.

I haven't tried suprep but prepopik was amazing. It was so EASY. There was a coupon that made it inexpensive for me too. I haven't heard of anyone who has tried both but I've heard they are both easy. I can't imaigine that my GI made me drink golytely when these were available. What was she thinking??? skull

NSSG - I often wonder the same thing...why make us drink that quantity if we don't have to?! I can't imagine Golytely, I did Halflytely and that was torture...how could you ever get that much down!

Did Suprep back in August. Certainly was less liquid than the citrate of magnesia / miralax prep.
To me the Suprep had an overpowering sweet taste and was still thick even after being diluted according to the instructions. Since I didn't care for the taste, I just chugged it. Ended up throwing up most of the prep 30 minutes later. Same thing happened the next morning with the second bottle of prep.
But enough got into my system to clean me out.

Am very surprised to hear people didn't mind Suprep, while I thought it was awful. Another example of everyone is different and react in our own individual way.

Used Suprep for both of mine. It does taste like Cherry/grape cough syrup but you mix it with 16oz of water. It says put down the prep within 30 mins (took me about 4-5 big gulps which weren't pleasant but doable) and then follow up with 32 oz of water in an hour. The evening isn't so tough to do, the problem is you need to do it like 6 hours before your colonoscopy in the morning so if you have a 8am colonoscopy you'll be trying to chug a lot of stuff at 2am. I threw up a good bit of the suprep mix the first time in the morning but it still cleared me out. Just take it easy on putting down a lot of liquid at once, try to take the full 1.5 hours for the liquids.

I find it odd that some people have to do a prep so many hours before their scope..even the morning of. I've had UC for 23 years and I have never had to do the prep before my procedure. It was always done the evening before. I wonder why?

Every doctor has their own way of doing things.... and I don't understand it at all. Why wouldn't there be a standard procedure? If I were a GI, I wouldn't want to use my valuable time coming up with a protocol for a scope prep.

I believe my Suprep was "berry" flavored.It's the only one I've ever taken and, as other people stated, it doesn't taste great but it wasn't the worst thing in the world. I tried to do it in as few swallows as possible, drinking it while it's still cold and holding the nose while drinking helped too.I know that sounds like it must be terrible but I've had much worse tasting medicines before and bet you have as well. I didn't feel sick after but I did feel a bit light headed a bit after finishing it.
