Here doctors give it for crohn not colitis because it targets the ileon (sorry I don't know the French word ) and so it is less effective for colitis, pred is better to deal with it.


Entocort is not the same as Uceris. You're right, Entocort targets the ileum and the ascending colon. Uceris is made for UC and targets the whole colon down to the rectum.

In my personal experience I had no luck with Entocord but Uceris did wonders for me. The difference is the coating.

Sorry to bump an extremely old thread. I stumbled upon this site while researching Uceris. My doctor put me on 9mg for 8 weeks for a mild flare-up. I only managed to stay on the Uceris for 6 weeks. I got every single side effect he promised me I wouldn't get - moon face, weight gain, acne, extreme fatigue, flatulence. It was just terrible. I haven't read anyone else say that got any side effects... am I the only one?

ATQT - I'd like to think of Uceris as Prednisone Jr. There is still some systemic absorption causing those pred like side-effects. I am sure you are not the only one. I had similar issues (though not moon face) while taking Uceris 2 years ago.

I've been on Uceris for almost three weeks now. The only side effect I have experienced so far is the extreme fatigue. I can't stand or be on my feet for more than ten minutes without feeling wiped out and needing to sit down. It has helped bring down the inflammation, however I do still have some pain in the abdomen. Not as bad as when the flare started though.

So....Still on the uceris. It's been about 5 weeks now and there has been not much change from the post above. Still have loose stools and still have the abdomen soreness and extreme fatigue. So.. is this Uceris actually supposed to put the colitis into remission? I was under the impression that it would, however my wife says otherwise. She says that the Uceris would not, and the next medication that my GI gives me after my scope next week will.
Anyone know?

Steroids, like uceris, are a rescue medication. When prescribed at a sufficient dosage they should stop the worst symptoms of a uc flare, giving you time to heal. Prednisone never put me into a remission like state, but it took my bms from 20+ a day down to 6, and cleared up the blood.

Maybe uceris isn't strong enough, and you might need to add a steroid enema to the mix... report your symptoms back to your gastroenterologist. Good luck

Uceris did not work for my son. Saw no improvement in his flare condition - and he got some side effects like stomach burning. Had to switch to prednisone after a week.

I am transitioning from Uceris to Prednisone. I just realized I had not been taking Prednisone this morning after my Doctor and I thought I was on Prednisone.

Anyway, does anyone have any advice or what I should expect going from Uceris to Pred?

uceris did not help made it worse straight out bleeding 5 to 7 times some of the most bleeding i ever had, and bad pains i have no mucus like i normally get with a flare just alot of blood and blood soaked toilet paper, not to say it doesnt work just not for me. prednisone use to work in about 3 weeks for me i was on it this flare from march till sept with no reults, went to apriso no help then asacol hd which helped at first but started heavy bleeding and many false bloody bm's no just hydro enimas might go back to lilda gi visit tomorrow at 2 hope i can stop this longest flare in 12 years

See I had a few of those symptoms at the very start of the treatment (<1 week) and after that it just persisted so I had accepted it as part of my UC symptoms. That's disappointing to know it could have been a reaction to the medication.

Well I have transitioned out of Uceris and onto Prednisone and have seen significant changes in my body. That and I can actually EAT again...which, again, I thought was part of the recovery (loss of appetite) since I had that issue of not being able to eat prior to starting meds.

Wish you the best of luck with the recovery. I am sure a relapse after that long is discouraging...but I wouldn't know, just projecting.

I just started a more long term solution to help get me off of steroids - Azathioprine. I've never been fond of taking any medications, let alone immunosuppressants, so this should be interesting.

I tried Uceris last Dec. I needed somthing fast before my vacation. It got things tolerable and partially under control. Never put me into remission. Soon after I had to go back on a quick prednisone taper. That put me into remission for a few weeks, but then found myself flaring again. The only good part was there was no side effects like prednisone. I must say though, I don't always get the side effects from the prednisone. This past taper I actually lost 10-15lbs and did not gain it, I was still eating a lot to try and keep wait on but never got the munchies and I never got the puffy face. I think it depends on the person. I'm currently tapering off my prednisone but unfortunately, it did not help much and it'd now ineffective for me.

Uceris is a fixed dose and produces less side effects than prednisone does. Prednisone at 40mgs (typical dose) is a lot stronger than uceris is. Prednisone is good at stopping bleeding and the worst of uc symptoms while your other uc medications have time to work. High doses of prednisone are known to produce side effects like night sweats, insomnia, racing heart, an insatiable appetite, energy bursts (like cleaning your whole house/apt at 2a in the morning), acne, moonface, and make one moody and emotional. Prednisone use is temporary, as are the side effects. It's a devil of a drug, but effective. Just don't be on it any longer than is necessary.
