First Remicade Infusion

So I finally had it! I had my first infusion this morning and I must say I feel great! I expected to be tired and nauseas but that is not the case at all. After my infusion I went out to eat and I feel like I can do anything I want right now! I'm not sure if this is normal but everything is looking good so far! Now I will just wait and see how my colitis reacts to it! Hopefully it'll knock the symptoms right out!! However, they are pretty mild right now, nothing to sever!

It works for me. You just have to monitor how many weeks between infusions. Your doctor can run a blood test on you to see if there is remicade still in your system before your next infusion. Funny you should mention Uceris. That stuff did not work for me at all. Prednisone works, but I hate taking that stuff. I have never gone to the hospital, but GI doctors have asked me. I just try to battle through it which I guess is kind of dumb. I don't even know what they would do for you at the hospital. Steroid drip?

When I was in the hospital in 2003 for a really bad flare they put me on a steroid drip and I had to have a few blood transfusions. Luckily it has never gotten that bad again. The steroid drop though put me into remission pretty quick and I just did a steroid taper when I got out.

Congrats! I'm glad you feel great. Just remember you may have setbacks and fluctuate between feeling great, good and sometimes bad again. But keep patient and you should make a huge turnaround.

Some GI write scripts for an IV of steroids with the Remicade infusion to help prevent an adverse reaction from the IV Remicade, which is the same reason they use the Benadryl with the infusion. If you received Steroids with the infusion then that could be the reason for the extra energy. I always got Benedryl with my infusions and I'd feel really tired for the rest of the day. The next day I would be full of energy.

My last infusion I took Claritin instead of Benadryl. The previous times taking Benadryl I'd be knocked out once I got home and sat down on the couch. Calritan allowed me to stay up the rest of the day without getting a super sleepy feeling.
