I have arthritis-like pain but my Dr. tells me I don't have arthritis. I have been on Hydrocodone, Oxycodone and Tramadol. They all cause constipation which irritates my Diverticular Disease. Of course we can't take Ibuprofen or Aspirin which leaves only Tylenol. I might as well chew a couple of jelly beans as Tylenol does absolutely nothing. I suppose this means that I have to live with this pain. I always get relief from Prednisone but I'm getting a nice round moon face. I can't handle that. I just wanted to vent, but would love to hear if you know of any other options. I've been to my PCP, a Rheumatologist, and my Gastroenterologist. They just look at me with puppy dog eyes and shrug their shoulders. Oh, woe is me!!

often when IBD is well managed the extra intestinal manifestations will improve.
when was your last scope? what was your inflammation like?
do you have any positive inflammatory markers?
have your ana titers been tested recently?
is it possible you are suffering from something not related to your IBD
because prednisone causes relief it makes me think that its inflammatory

I was scoped in 2015. UC was in complete remission. Sed rate was a bit high on last blood tests just 2 months ago.

Can you take a daily stool softener or laxative to counteract the constipating effects of opiates?
Otherwise, if it was me, I'd probably choose to take ibuprofen and take my chances. I'm not saying everyone should do that, but I don't deal well with pain.

Are you in a medical marijuana state? That's my first thought. You can specify the type of MM that does not make you high and just works on pain (from what I read).
I know someone with arthritis and she takes Tramadol but constipation would worry me.
I agree with the comment that it is likely inflammation related if your doctor says you aren't showing evidence of arthritis.

Marijuana slows transit time so that will have the same detrimental effects as morphine

I'm experiencing the same thing. I've seen two different rheumatologists and had all of the rheumy labs drawn. Nothing of significance. I've been on a pred taper since the first week in Dec. and once I got down to 15 mg, my hip is bothering me again and a couple of hand joints. I feel like a million bucks when I'm on 40 mg. My skin is great, my joints don't hurt and my nausea went away. I see a pain mgmt doc for peripheral neuropathy and one of my meds is oxy so I take a stool softener. I took some ibuprofen for menstrual cramps a few months ago and had extreme heartburn for 2 days despite being on dexilant. It's not worth it. I had to leave work early because it was that bad.

I also take Tramadol. No constipation and adequate pain relief for me.

I have taken Tramadol in the past and don't recall having any problems. Tylenol really doesn't do much for joint pain (my experience).
