Hey everyone!

It's been a short while since i've posted, i've had quite a rough run with other 'related-intestinal' complications!It all feels like non-stop, if its not one thing its another. Theres always something wrong, and the amount of different treatments im taking to 'help' eventually cause some kind of problem too. Its like a lose or lose situation!A vicious cycle..

Anyway i'm not here to have a rant, im sick of being sick and even sicker of complaining!

So heres my question to you... This is my third time in the 5months to have a urine infection and go on antibiotics to cure it. Basically i'm getting them far too frequently, i went to see my doctor today and he suggested a scan to check things out. Also he said that UTI's can be related to colitis in some form..

Has anyone experienced this? Or do you know about the link?

First post/reply on this site. I too have been having some "urinary" issues. I have been having pain in my rectum that mimics my UC but I have also had decreased urine, urgency, frequency and pain in my urethra. They told me that I have prostatitis and that the inflammation is probably associated with the inflammation in the rectum (because they are so close). I guess it is easy for the inflammation to pass barriers with a compromised rectum wall. I too feel like it is one thing or another!

I get frequent UTI's which I think is related to colitis. The problem is that e.coli often causes them and if you're pooping all the time, there's e.coli "down there". I seem to only get them after intercourse even if I pee before and after. My OB/GYN finally prescribed Bactrim for me to take to prevent them. I take one pill immediately after intercourse and then another pill 12 hours later, no more after that. Since trying this regime, I haven't had one UTI.

Have you been checked for interstitial cystitis? In other words...did the doctor do a bladder scope? If not...definitely push for one.
Oh, and on the same note...are you seeing a urologist or are you just dealing with your GP?

I think when there are so many things going on in one area...it will have an effect. Hormone changes can also affect bladder/urethra changes.

Best to see a specialist and get it all figured out.

Thanks for all your replys, I have been told UTI's are common in women, however mine are becoming far too frequent!

I am due in for the scan and the GP has suggested that they can also do a scope to double check!So i have been referred for both. Im a bit worried about this.. Is it similar to a colonscopy? Does it hurt?

I hope and pray i don't get yet another bad news!!

Glamourgirl, what is bactrim? Im from the UK so our drugs maybe called different names, is the same as an antibiotic?

Bactrim is an antibiotic, it's sulfa based. If you Google it, it should give you other names for it.

I've read that yeast issues can also cause frequent UTI's along with colitis issues. That might be an avenue you can explore. It's new to me so I don't really have any info to pass along.

I've never thought about it before, but it sure makes sense to me that UTI's would happen concurrently.  Considering how often we "go" and how, ahem, messy things can get down there, it's not surprising at all that UTI's would happen. 

The last time I had one, my doctor told me to be careful wiping so as not to get the toilet paper fuzz in the urinary tract.  If you're going to the bathroom a lot, I would try just blotting yourself dry (in front) and then using a baby wipe or something to clean yourself up.

And remember to never wipe in front with a forward motion - you could be pulling bacteria from the back to the front.

Hi...a bladder scope doesn't hurt, it's just a tad uncomfortable because of how one is laying in the stirrups, etc.

It's "wet" because the doctor flushes the bladder...

I ended up with quite a few infections and inflammations after I had a tubal ligation....after the cathater...OMG, never had anything like it ever! That year was pretty much hell, and dealing with that and UC and endo/period stuff...it was awesome to get it cleared up..especially before I had a hysterectomy a year later.

The doctor did suspect IC and commented that UC and IC have some sort of connection...I didn't have it thankfully.

The best thing to do after having a bm is to do a wash with a hand shower if you're able to do so, but if you have any inflammation in the bladder caused by another autoimmune condition it's best to get that dealt with..and a scope will probably tell the tale.

Hope you're able to get it sorted out.

Oh, you could consider cranberry capsules...I recently read that it helps the lining to prevent any bad bacteria to adhere to it that could cause infection from foreign invaders.

Never heard of a link before, but I did just have my first ever UTI a few months ago. I took a 3-day course of Bactrim and it cleared up.

Can u tell me how this all panned out? I have been plagued with continuing UTIs literally since i was diagnosed. Had my first one a few days after my official diagnises and i always seem to need double doses of antibiotics. At moment im in a flare again andb its always due to this because antibiotics messes my system up. Im seeing a urologist next month. I seem to get them even when im not flaring. My quality of life is worse because of these UTIs and i believe my UC would be in full remission if not for this.
