Glen Frey died from UC brought on by defective RA drugs?

This story makes no sense to me, immune suppression drugs would not lead to UC. -Thoughts?

Was a Defective Prescription Drug Responsible for Glenn Frey’s Death?

"According to his manager and personal friend, Irving Azoff, Frey had been battling rheumatoid arthritis for fifteen years. Frey died from complications related to ulcerative colitis, which Azoff says were side effects of the medications."

"Evidence is now emerging, indicating that the medications Frey was taking for his rheumatoid arthritis might have been a contributing factor to his demise."

Maybe he was taking OTC NSAIDs for his arthritis (many do) which cause GI irrtiation as a side effect and perhaps triggered a flare?

I read that too. Makes no sense. If he was on immunosuppressives or biologicals for his RA that should have helped his UC. Could just be that it lowered his immune response and since he was recovering from some type of colon surgery, he developed a secondary infection that he couldn't heal from (in addition to the pneumonia). Then again, his manager is reporting this...what does he know about any of it if he doesn't have RA or UC?! And you can't trust what managers say anyway since it's all about the public relations message they want to deliver.

I always got RA type symptoms from biologics. I guess we are all different. I literally couldn't walk after remicade a few times. I got pneumonia while I was on remicade/mtx/pred and it nearly killed me. I would imagine it could happen to anyone. The chances are low but it's possible. If you read remicade's prescribing brochure, you will see pneumonia and sepsis mentioned often...

NSSG, FYI, the manager wasn't saying that the meds caused RA symptoms, he was claiming the meds Frey was taking for RA brought about his UC.

Unless they clarify eventually what exactly the complications were and what meds exactly for RA and UC he took...the reason can only be speculated.

It only gets attention because he's a celebrity, but deaths from prescription drugs are the 4th leading cause of death in the United States. That's a lot of ghosts created by an industry that purports to treat individuals. It's also one of the reasons you need to be your own advocate when navigating the medical field. Too many doctors are simply unaware of the level of damage they are doing to patients.

It's an issue which gets swept under the rug because the pharmaceutical lobby owns most of the white house.

OT: A member of the philanthropic women's group I belong to is paralyzed neck down (Guillan-Barre) due to getting her flu shot this year. Apparently this is a "rare" possible side effect mentioned in the warnings. I have never seen any written warnings about this and found it pretty shocking. She is 70-something and not in poor health (before this).

At my annual checkup this month I asked my doctor about it and she had never heard of this happening. But she told me something else I didn't know. People over 65 get a double dose flu shot as normal procedure. My husband is over 65 and has never been told this. I think there should be a lot more disclosure than is being done currently.

haha, maybe they would pay me to stop saying it might kill you. I do kind of sound like the commercials though, "this drug is great, but there are rare side effects, including potential uncontrollable infections which may lead to death. Ask your Dr if it's right for you" :)

ima, that is crazy. I am not getting any unnecessary shots anymore. if I get a flu, I will wait for it to pass.

After the shot in late October I have developed some neuropathy in both legs and a little in right hand.
Seems like it might be getting somewhat better now, I am not crippled or anything.
I have suspected GB since the get go, starting in Nov shortly after the shot.
At times also felt like I was walking in boots filled with water.

You can bet I researched it.

Nothing I have tried will take it away, naproxen,curcumin, or a good dose of pred,magnesium oil, DMSO, no effect.

Also large doses of b1,b2,B6 Niacin,folate,b12,NAC,A,C,E,D, nada,zip,zilch,no effect.

I had the flu last year so got a shot this year,perhaps a mistake. Being miserable for about a week with

103 temp for 3 days,perhaps less bad than the shot.

Getting back on topic there is something going on with biologics and arthritis and IBD.

My flu jab didn't work last year and could a horrible flu. Not keen at all!

CDC reported that last years flu shot was only 23% effective in preventing the flu and then later revised to only 18% effective. That failure rate is not much of an incentive to me. Probably why they came up with the "senior" flu shot that is (as Old Mike stated) 4X as strong as the standard shot and we don't know if that will prevent deaths from flu.

People should make their own decision on this (as all medical decisions) but my main objection is that we are not being told these facts, they are not being disclosed before the doctor/nurse says to roll up your sleeve.

Before receiving a flu shot are you required to sign a form indicating that you been informed about the possible side effects? Probably not. Then maybe your friend can sue for damages?

My GI doc warned me not to get flu shots. Especially when you are on immune suppression drugs, flu shots can be dangerous. Also the effectiveness of flu shots has been widely questioned. Why risk your health for a possibly 10%-20% efficacy?

The efficacy of the flu shot varys greatly year-to-year. Essentially, they take an educated guess in the summer of what strains of the flu are likely to be commonplace the upcoming winter flu season. The vaccination is then mass produced over a number of months until the vaccinations start.

I am sure vaccinations carry a statistically small odds of adverse side effects. However the benefits far outweigh the risks. Our automobiles are extremely risks, about 1 in 133 die due in an auto accident (usa odds). Yet, we don't bat an eye or hesitate when we hop inside one to go about our day's activities.

My GI told me not to get a flu shot also. I think it depends on what meds you are on.

But that is so sad about Glen Frey.

Remember, anything you read in the popular media about IBS is written by someone who almost certainly knows nothing about IBD, about human physiology or any other pertinent topic. And when they're simply repeating what they were told by another unknowledgeable person who heard it from the person with IBD, it's usually worse than useless. Ever play that game "gossip" as a child?

I'm no longer participating in vaccine discussions. Suffice it to say that I do get influenza vaccine every year.

In the UK we are encouraged to take a flu jab and a pneumonia jab when needed. If you are on immune depressers flu can kill so I have never heard of many complications regarding them.
Having had flu in my late twenties I thought my life was ending lol the worst 9 days of my life so a simple jab protects somewhat.
