Hey everyone! I need some advice...so I was diagnosed with proctitis back in May of 2013. With some dietary changes and meds have been able to manage this disease well and maintain normal life. However, 1 month ago I underwent oral surgery to remove cancer that was discovered in my gums. They gave me augmentin to prevent infection...8 day course. My colon was not real happy about the drug while on it but again tolerable. I figured once I was off it things would get better. Seems like 2 steps forward and 1 step back since then. On Sunday I started feeling really tired and not myself and pooping constantly. I basically begged my gi for prednisone and he won't give it to me...says longer term effects are bad. Well, I am absolutely miserable now. I am regularly on lialda and Canada. But he added uceris when I called 3 weeks ago and now he added rowasa enema today. Haven't had any yet. They did blood work and my wbc are elevated and he thinks I could have a virus or something. I also have a temp of 101 right now. I am so frustrated and sick of feeling sick. Any suggestions????

Uceris is a Pred-like drug, so the doc did respond.

If you have infection, a different antibiotic might help. If you have a virus, and ant-viral might help. If itis either of these, Pred would not have been good because it would mask symptoms while it maybe got worse.

The enemas have a good chance of helping if you inflammation is only in the procto-sigmoid area.

Antibiotics can mess up gut microbes. I would try to find a probiotic with lots of strains in it. Taper up to a 8-10 bullion, and then reduce to a maintenance level. Go slow so you do not have a bad reaction.

How many milligrams of Uceris are you taking?

8mg and I also take 2-3 Vsl #3's already. I had a fever of almost 102 last night. My abdomen is kind of tender too. I am just scared right now. I have lost about 10lbs since my surgery of weight I didn't have to lose:(

Got my answer as to why wbc's are high...I have a uti! Well, that explains all my symptoms. Praying this antibiotic works for me:)

Get some probiotics to make you gut happy after killing off all rhe good! ;/) feel better!
