Looks like I'm heading into a flare and for the first time (or the first time I can recall), the repeated bms are causing a burning/stinging pain in my anus.

What do you use for this? I know I'm not alone here.

rectal meds....and external hydrocortisone cream or proctocedyl.

LOL, don't worry, quincy, I've got the corticosteroid enemas lined up. :-) But the burning/stinging is just in the one spot -- now that you mention it I think I was unconsciously shying away from hydrocortisone cream because I've never been a fan of cortisone on open wounds and I think that's what's going on here, but who am I to decline cortisone in any of its forms at this point.

you could try zinc cream, calmoseptine, even Canesten cream if it might be a bit of a yeast thing anally due to severe irritation and stool and you aren't able to do a butt wash afterward.

Maybe trying Tucks wipes or something like that after bms.

You have fissures?

I'm hoping it hasn't reached the severity of a fissure. I'm hoping it's just topical irritation. :-( But even after a wash, it stings/burns and I realized this morning that the pain lasts 5 to 10 minutes after the wash. *sigh* Can anything be done for fissures or do I just live with it until it decides to heal up?

Firstly, take a look-see yourself...the old "squatting over a mirror trick" and see if you have one.

Considering it still stings after washing, try the cortisone cream for sure.

It's definitely good to have many preparations in our "arse"nal.

Keep us posted, many have different ideas for butt discomfort.

Oh, just wondering if the soap you're using might also cause some discomfort....something like Cetaphil cleanser or CeraVe cleanser is very mild and actually soothing.

Sometimes toilet paper itself can worsen butt symptoms...yowie!

Sucks to always have our minds on our butts...

UC caused me to change toilet paper after almost 50 years of brand loyalty LOL. I use a soap that has no chemicals or scents in it, and it seems to be fine, generally. The stinging is only during and right after a bm, and even cool water stings like HECK then.

It just struck me that I have corticosteroid suppositories, too, as well as the enemas, so I'm going to give them a try tonight. That might be just the ticket.

Yes, a tiny bit. I haven't had any bleeding in months and months. I'm doing a lot better today.

Still seems that it would be a fissure...my best suggestion is to use external meds religiously...which I'm lax, as compared to the rectal meds.
I'm never late going to bed as I am getting out of the house to go somewhere.

Dab or pat after toileting to save the skin, don't rub.

Also, there is a product called Anusol HC suppositories. They are an Rx hydrocortisone.

Ask your doctor for them.

Even in remission I always had a slight burning around my anus. I was on rectal meds every evening. The only thing that put the burning out was when I started taking Prescript assist, Miyarisan and using prebiotic fiber such as inulin,arabinogalactan,green banana flour etc. I am not sure how it helped but it did. I was on rectal meds for a long time and they never eased it like this did.
