Problem with mesalamine enemas

Does anyone else have issues with not being able to get more than half of the mesalamine out of the enema bottle when using it? If I'm lucky I get more than half but tonight that didn't happen. My rear is already sore from when I use the bathroom, stinging and these cause that too. Don't need anymore damage done by the enema being moving around when trying to get the liquid to come out. Frustrating. Any suggestions for easier use of these things?

how many times a day are you using them ? what position are you in when you administer ?how long have you been using them ?

this is what i would do =

1. use one, put whatever is left in the fridge -
2. use the next one, then combine the rest of that one with the first one, put it in the fridge and use that one next -
3. whatever is left from that one gets tossed -
4. repeat as needed -

I've used perrigo and I've never had trouble. I would always squeeze the air out of the bottle before starting and then warm the bottom under hot water. Not to attempt to get it all out, just to make it less uncomfortable, but I would imagine it might help a little with both. I never really tried to get every drop out. I figured if I get a good amount in, it was a "job well done". The problem for me usually wasn't getting the enema in, it was keeping it in. I always did it standing up, I never laid down or used a towel.

How do you squeeze them? Sometimes having a thumb on the bottom helps. As you have dual mechanical squeezing force, first from the sides, and second from the bottom.

I tried the recommended positions but used my own. First, I'd sit on the toilet. Then, I'd raise my butt up just slightly (maybe 6 inches ) above the seat, just enough that I can reach my hand underneath and insert the enema. As a bonus, if any enema spills/drips then it falls down into the toilet. Because laying on my side or torso on my hardwood bathroom floor just isn't appealing to me (ouch my boney knees lol).

Often, I'd administer half. Wait a couple minutes and then administer the rest. As it can be hard squeezing most out all at once... Giving it two tries, I usually could get the majority of the fluid out of the bottle. You'll never get one hundred percent, especially with those thick Perrigo bottles.

I tend to use the steroid enemas more frequently, but...
I sort of "fold" the bottle from the bottom toward one side, and then "fold" again as needed to get most of the stuff out.

I have always done them in bed so I don't need to move after. On my left side, towel under me.

A lubricant like A & D Ointment works very well. Put some on area before and after use. Point the enema towards your belly button and squeeze the enema from the bottom while breathing out. This helps for me. Also, lying on your left side with right leg up higher than left leg, then insert and squeeze. I hope this helps you like it does for me. The bottle of the Steroid enemas are easier to use. I clean them and save them. I empty the contents of Rowasa enema in the Steroid enema bottle. I also warm up bottle in the microwave for 10 sec or under the warm water. I also save what is left in ref and use it next time like juststud mentioned above.
