Anyone else on Uceris foam? Picked up today.

I haven't posted a lot lately but I'm still here! I am currently in a drug trial (the open phase part). GS-5745. I'm at week 16 w/ no improvement. I moved in to open label at week 9.

Anyway, after trying to get Uceris foam for going on a year (two years??) I finally picked it up today. It is quite the packaging if you haven't seen it. It is basically a big canister (like cortifoam) and individual applicators. You use the canister while the applicator is inserted.

It was really hard to get this filled. The drug rep talked to my GI about it again last week (after a production issue). Gi's office called it into CVS. CVS told me they couldn't fill it. My GI called the drug rep and the rep actually went to my CVS to find out what the problem was. Then he went to Walgreens and they agreed to fill it. Quite the story, huh? Luckily they gave me a co-pay card so my out of pocket was $25 for 2 large boxes.

Think that covers it. Will see if it works. I'm not holding my breath.....

Good luck! I hope it really works out for you! I still wish we had the mesalamine foam here in the U.S. as well. Please keep us posted.

pink1 I have been trying forever to get it too but no luck!! Do you know if this the copay card you used: http://www.uceris.com/tablet/savings

I keep getting conflicting information on the savings card. One person said I can use it for the foam and persno said I can only use it for the tablets.

I am having a ton of trouble getting the foam and on top of that I have medi-cal (medicaid for CA) so hard to get it approved by insurance.

There is a not a specific foam card. The drug rep gave me a Uceris pill card and said it would work. My co-pay was $25 for 2 boxes (60 doses).

Walgreens was able to order the foam for me. I jumped through hoops to find a place that would fill it. I'm in a drug trial so I'm at my GI's office a lot. I told him I was having a hard time getting CVS to fill the foam script (where they called it in). He called the Uceris drug rep and the rep actually went to all the drugstores near my house. Walgreens was the one that was able to fill it.

Pink keep us posted on how you are doing with the foam. A pink1 review :). I am interested because I am all about the rectal meds and I am curious about new ones. Hope it works great for you!

Hey! Uceris foam is definitely easier to use than Cortifoam. It doesn't go all over the place! There is an individual applicator for every use. I used it 2x/day for 2 weeks. Then 1x/day for additional 4 weeks. I felt better on 2x/day. I've taken some steps backwards going to 1x/day. I'm also still on a drug trial med weekly.

Thanks for the info Pink! What were the tanglible results when taking it 2 times a day? What was your bowel movement frequency number before and after? And how many trips when going down to 1 time a day? I am going to be starting it soon.

I had less blood and mucous on 2x/day. My frequency before the foam was 6-8 times a day (w/ 2-4 imodium a lot of days). While using the foam 2x/day I was going 2-4 times (less imodium needed).

Once I reduced the foam to once a day I started to see an increase in trips just to pass mucous. And back to the 6-8 number.

My GI okayed me to go back to 2x/day yesterday. I restarted that today. Will let you know how that goes!

hey Pink - quick question - when you first started the Uceris Foam, how many days of twice-a-day medicine did it take for you to see a difference in symptoms? I am taking it twice a day and after 2 full days, I have seen minimal difference and not much overall improvement in symptoms so far. Also, was it a gradual difference or a all of a sudden difference? Thanks!

I would say it was gradual improvement. Closer to week 3 before I saw changes. I've never had any UC med work super fast for me so I'm not the best person to gauge that on.

Just saw this post. I am in NYC and Rite-Aid says that Uceris foam is simply not available. They asked me to ask my doctor to prescribe something else. May my doctor should talk to a Uceris sales rep as well.

BTW, is the foam any good?

Most of my bleeding is from the lower end and the doctor says that this foam really helps.

^I think I replied to you in another post. It is available. I have 2 boxes under my counter now :) It took a lot of work to find a pharmacy to fill it. Have the Uceris drug rep help you.

The Uceris foam is much easier to use than Cortifoam (less messy, less wasted foam). You get an individual applicator for each dose. So one box has 28 individual applicators and 2 canisters. Each canister has 14 doses. There is a slight learning curve but it comes w/ pretty descriptive directions (and some fairly funny illustrations).

Thanks pink1. I asked my GI to switch the prescription from Rite-Aid (which said they couldn't get it) to Duane Reade (Walgreens). Duane Reade was supposed to get it today, but their warehouse is still out of stock.

The pharmacist at DH told me to wait a couple of days or to try another pharmacy.

I hope they get it in the next couple of days.

Thanks Hateuc! How is cortifoam working for you? I am on Generic Rowasa enema every night, seems to have calmed my flare a bit.

I also use generic Rowasa every night and have for years. I also need to use anucort (steroid supp) about 2x/week to stay well. I really only use Cortifoam when thing really start to act up and it seems to work pretty well. I wonder if the Uceris foam will be a good option for me in the future. I know it's not great to use steroids and I wonder how my gi will feel about this vs the anucort. I am always interested in any new rectal med because my inflammation is low.

I am on Uceris foam. It has done little to nothing to help me, but this might be because my inflammation is higher than it is reaching. Hope it works more effectively for others!

I just was Diagnosed, My Dr. prescribed a foam and my Pharmacy says it's on back order. I am guessing it's the same stuff. Stinks if it helps me :(
