Eye roll moments

I corrected the PA taking my skin biopsy (rash) when she said IBS instead of IBD when reviewing what RX meds I take. Minor I know but it is fairly usual for many doctors/nurses not to really know/understand the difference between the two.

Many people think UC is an upset stomach that can be treated with Immodium or similar OTC. Even people I know with IBS don't know what IBD is and how different it can be from what they have. I got served bread-coated chicken at the home of someone who knows I am gluten-intolerant. She later found out she is gluten-intolerant so maybe is better informed now.

LOL A co-worker told me that I'd be better soon because "SPRING IS COMING".
So now I laugh and just tell everyone that spring is coming and all will be well.

That happened to me, too. Also, how much longer will you be on pred? That stuff is bad for you and you should get off of it as quickly as possible.
I think what people want to know is if I am seeing improvement yet, but really only my husband gets how slow that process can be.

Glad I'm not the only one dealing with this. My sister in law has IBS so every time I see her she asks how I'm feeling, I always say fine - I'm sick of talking about this disease - and then she goes into a 20 minute story about her IBS and how she knows she shouldn't have dairy and did so and had D for 2 days. Sorry, but D has nothing on spewing blood and mucous for months on end. Then she goes on with her theories of all IBDs and that they are caused by food. Really? A piece of broccoli has caused ulcerations, inflammation, etc. in my entire colon?? I just typically have to walk away - sometimes I actually fake a run to the rest room - claiming "gotta go" halfway through the story - only time UC comes in handy! Then there's my dear brother who was complaining that he has to take "ONE" pill a day for his thyroid and how much it sucks. Are you kidding me?? I pulled out my medicine container - the one labeled S - S and opened one of the tabs - his mouth dropped and he hasn't said another word. Dreading the upcoming holiday when I have to deal with this yet again.

Which, btw, got another one today. I called my GI's office and talked to her assistant about scheduling my colonoscopy (my second ever). I mentioned I'm trying to schedule it to take the least time off work possible. She said "oh, I've gone to work right after! You'll be fine. You just need some food and caffeine after."

I didn't even try to explain to her that I am in a very active, severe flare, which affects how my body will handle the prep and the biopsies! And I sure didn't try to explain what happens when I eat food. Or that caffeine hasn't been an option for months!

ROFL I can relate to all of the replies above. LOL I'm the guy whose friends think I'm a real hermit and anti-social because I won't go on an all day fishing trip in a small boat with them, haven't been on a really long trip with my wife in a while, and stay home WAY too much. LOL I just say yup, I'm a hermit. We all must realize....people really don't understand, know or care; and nobody really wants to hear about our being..ill. TRUE friends and those who really do care, will read about your illness and understand a little better. Just tell people...imagine you have D, worst cramps they can imagine, and are in a restaurant filled with people...and the bathroom door is locked for cleaning. They still won't understand. This forum is full of wonderful people with an ugly illness...we DO 'get it'. Be safe all and get to remission!!!
