How long it will take for the Humira side effects to go away?

Please can someone tell me how long it will take for the side effects to go away after stopping Humira?

It probably depends on the side effects and how long you've been on Humira for, I started Simponi after Humira which gave me the same side effects so I can't tell you how long it took me for my side effects from Humira to go away.

Swollen and severe pain throughout most of my body, mostly joints and muscles.

Someone please who has been on Humira and stopped it due to side effects, please help.

uhh im so sorry noel!! if i remember correctly, it took about 2.5 weeks for my pain in the joints to go away. i had severe frozen joints and couldnt bend them.

Thanks. It has been 2 weeks and I read online it takes 5-6 months and that scared me because my pain is a 10 on a 1-10 scale with 10 being the worst. I can't be in this pain for 6 months or even 6 weeks. It is too much for me.

Bacon Girl, what do you take now? I refuse to try another biologic.

I'm sure humira remains in your body 10 or more weeks.

I am not sure how long it will take but have you tried a round of pred? I developed severe joint pain from Lialda and the only thing that helped was 20 mg pred which I tapered from over a 3 month period.

Noelhelp,

Maybe you want to talk to your GI about switching from an anti-tnf which Humira is (Remicade, Simponi & Cimzia) to a different mechanism like Entyvio. Incase you are not allergic to just Humira but to all anti-tnf meds.

I am going back on Uceris. It worked fine for 2 years, then I had a flare and tried Humira, big mistake! What can I do to ease the pain in my joints and what can I do to get it out of my system faster? I drink a lot of water already and Tylenol doesn't help. Thanks

Hi Noel, try Celebrex - not sure if will help, if not, request a Medrol dose pack and see if you can get some relief. I found pain relievers didn't work but pred did. I know, pred is evil but to me the joint pains were so bad I couldn't stand it and it was worth the risks from the pred. Good luck, hope you feel better soon.

I was told if you have UC, you cannot take Celebrex? What is Medrol?

Medrol is a steroid, Solu-medrol is one of the IV steroids that they give you in the hospital.

Your GI should help you with this, I would think a steroid would help you with reaction. I'm not sure Uceris is going to help you as much as other Steroids since it is mostly contained in the GI tract; a more systemic Steroid would help with the joints.

My GI gave the ok for Celebrex but it didn't help. The Medrol is a steroid but somehow different. It comes in a pack where you take 6 pills on day 1, then 5 and so on. It should be a good indicator if steroids will help with quick results. Within 24 hours of taking the 6 pills I had complete relief of all joint pains. Of course, 2 days after the last pill and they returned. I then went on 20 mg of pred and tapered, the pains returned and I stayed on steroids over 3 months. I was working with a rheumy and we worked on tweaking the dose to keep the pains at bay until they subsided.

I just returned from my GI doctor. He said I shouldn't have this severe pain from Humira. He referred me to a RA doctor. He gave me an anti-inflame med. He said Humira is for helping RA, not making you feel as if you have RA. He thinks it is not from the Humira, but something else. My UC symptoms are in complete remission.

What is an RA Doctor? A rheumatologist? Well at least our UC is in remission, that's good news. Hope you get some relief from the pain.

Noelhelp,

You said that you are swollen all over like your arms, legs and abdomen; I'm not a doctor but I thought RA was more inflammation in the joints, not most of your body and that's why I'm thinking it is an allergic reaction.

The thing that I agree with your doctor about is that you need a 2nd opinion.

Yes, it is mostly my joints that are in severe pain, I am swollen in legs, hands, and abdomen. My GI doc did an ultrasound of my stomach and found nothing. I hope the 2nd opinion helps me. Thanks.
