low dose naltrexone

I rarely see posts about it these days either and I don't know the status of the members who were using it for their UC. I know we had a few who swore by it and had amazing luck but we have also had a lot of failed attempts. As with everything, it seems to be very individual. I asked my doctor about it and she said there is really no study that shows it beneficial, but who knows, is there a study showing otherwise? I never had much luck getting it prescribed but I guess I didn't try too hard... asked my GIs, none were open to it.

Probiotic had surgery so I know it didn't end up being his saving grace.

it's hard to track because a lot of the posters on the threads are not regulars and a lot of the people who don't have success don't post in the threads, just move on to the next thing or surgery...

Another thing i've noticed is that people who have luck with it are usually doing a bunch of other things at the same time, some are on UC meds, some on really strict diets. Difficult to tell what is doing what.

I have also read conflicting things on whether transdermal LDN could possibly be effective for UC... There are a lot of questions and not a lot of hard facts.

I read that it is suggested that the drug works best in conjunction with the SCD diet. I always wondered that if that is the case then maybe anyone's success actually had more to do with the diet than it did the LDN.

I didn't do well with the SCD diet so I don't think this would work for me. I do much better with resistant starches.

Hi - well just wanted to say that I have tried everything and nothing worked but the LDN and no sugar diet (for 6 weeks) to kick my remission in to gear; had pancolitits now for about 4 + years; on LDN for about 2+ years. The LDN worked in about 6 weeks saw major improvement. I did go off and it's been 2 + years now. Reasoning was basicially lazy and I felt good, felt that my immune system was working well. I had my colonoscopy after being UC for 10 years; pancoloitis for 4 + years, it was all normal except at the for a few cm of the rectum. I also had a polyp that was completely removed - I'm 55 yrs years young. It was a pre-cancerous benign poylp (no cancer) - size pencil eraser size. So in other words nothing to worry about, however now I'm on the high risk UC patient so a follow-up colonoscopy at 1 year. There was no dyplasia from all the random biopsies. So yes I truly believe the LDN works. I however am in a minor flare - more likely in the few cm in the rectum, I'm using rowasa enamas to get that under control - I think the colonscopy totally irritated it.

I am considering going back on LDN only 2 mg not the 4.5 mg - for a maintenance precaution. I feel the 4.5 is the top dose and this is the only drug that worked for me. If I can help anyone find relief from the chronic disease then I think that's my mission - I had to go to a "Sports Health and Wellness" clinic that are open to alternative, then the mainstay drugs. In addition, watch whatcha eat.... after colon is getting better I could introduce gluten, wheat, rice, oats; but again don't overdo it. LDN basically gave me life back :D Hope this helps!!
