I'm 17 and I got diagnosed with UC a month ago. I've been taking my medications and I'm on a so called "white diet" but the bleeding hasn't stopped. It stopped for like a week but then I got a cold my nose was runny and I had a sore throat. Could this be the reason why I started bleeding again?

Having colds can definitely kick things back a bit, but I'd say it's mostly because you're flaring.
What meds are you on?

Basically I only eat rice, mashed potatoes, chicken fish, spinach, chicken soup and cottage cheese and other stuff.

I take both salofalk and steroids orally. The salofalk pills aren't really pills they come in some kind of granola form and I take them every morning. Sorry I can't explain every detail, English isn't my native language.

It can take a while to get a flare under control. Patience is the key. And there can be many ups and downs when it comes to symptoms. Do you know the extent of your UC?

Hi Nadica and welcome. Doctors don't always get our treatment right the first time. Sometimes it takes several adjustments to get your treatment plan perfect. As a new uc patient that process can be extremely frustrating. Nobody wants to see blood after bowel movements and uc symptoms like urgency and pain are difficult to manage. You should be reporting your progress (or lack thereof) back to your gastroenterologist.
Salfolk granuals are most effective when prescribed at 4,000 milligrams a day (ask for a dosage increase if you were prescribed less). Oral medications are best when combined with a suppository or enema. If your active disease extends 45cms than the enema would be the most effective. Ask for salfolk enemas or pentasa enema. Treatment from both ends is the most effective and produces the quickest results. Adding these changes to your treatment plan may be just what you need to fix the last remaining troublesome uc symptoms you're experiencing.
