Biologics aren't that scary. - That is what is scary, there was a time "they said" antibotics were the cats meow, now there admitting that using them to much is a bit scary. I will always leave the big guns alone until they are the ONLY option. Worrying about long term usage with biologics is what is truly scrary for me currently, not so much the short term "side effects". It is what the long term breakdowns that might occur in my immune system that will make my current situation worse. Which of course just like antibotics were at one time, not much, don't worry, it will make you better today, worry about other health issues later on down the road when you already have them.
Remicade has been around since 1998, 17 years. Not exactly a new, untested drug. Rather it as a pretty good history and safety profile. I understand that many don't go on it (and other treatments) until it is unavoidable (nobody wants to be using treatments they feel they don't yet need). Biologics are very different than antibiotics and I feel that's an off-base analogy. Biologics are tiny proein molecules that do not kill anything (like antibiotics do), rather they block another protein. Later down the road, I want a cure not medications for any of us.
