Newly diagnosed - suggestions?

Welcome. There's lots of great information about what uc is, the various treatments available, and so forth. Ccfa.org is always a great place to start. It's good to be knowledgeable about your condition and help work with your doctor. Uc means a maintenance medication treatment for life, whether you're feeling good or bad. As there is no cure, and medications only treat your symptoms, stop those medications and those symptoms return. Uc is believed to be either an autoimmune disorder or at least an immune deficiency.

I'm surprised you're only taking salfolk 3 times a week. Daily is much better, I'd ask your doctor for an increase if you're still experiencing symptoms.

Hi, just read your list...We use food against uc..its the food you do eat and the food you don't eat that counts...had uc for nearly 4 and a half years...nothing worked for us but kept reading about food..as a response..after having the worst accident on the planet and sinking into the abysmal pit of sorrows we decided to at least give food a try...uc is extremely reactive to food and fluid as it is extremely sensetiveto what you put into the gut system...we got all that we did from the web by reading what other people eat..it was a disaster for a while but it began to work later..it took us about eight months to find the foods to eat...and the foods to keep away from...for us it was never remission we kept at the right foods and very slowly the effects of the uc began to fade..we also use the pro biotic vsl3 and other supplements like aloe vera serra pep tase..now we use a2 milk...its the meds the supplements but very much the foods that won the day for us..now we can run a mile swim a mile ride ten miles play heavy sport and do everything anyone can do..it would take pages here to describe why this stuff works so all that is hoped is that you go on the web and find all the food uc people eat and don't eat..get some reading on body nutrition to start..somewhere in those foods you will likely find the foods that suit your uc...example serra pep tase attacks and destroys scar tissue and relieves swelling..everything we eat has a purpose..at first you are most likely to ignore this advice...but be kind and keep it in your memory bank for later..we use only one med now we toilet like anyone else we eat t bone steak and salad vegs that suit us..you must exercise too however light it all counts it is quite remarkable to see what food does

nanj..it is really sad that you have this curse, but good that you found this website this early in your illness. It took me years to find the information that you can glean from the posts here. Seem to be really good and helpful people who have been on this journey for many years of trial and error. Ask your doctor about Hyosyamine for the cramps, it worked for me if I was in public and needed 'emergency' help. It does really dry your mouth and eyes though. Also, mine prescribes dicyclomine for me to use on a daily basis. There are drugs that help, but you may really have to force the issue with your doctor. Everybody is a little different. Kefir seems to be MY probiotic that works best. Write down all of your questions and ask your doctor...hopefully you have a good one who will actually listen to you. LOL And READ!!! Don't give up because, as others have said; this is a lifetime journey. Good luck and you'll find what works for YOU.
