Hey everyone,

I posted awhile back about wanting to try Remicade, but my GI thought we'd give Uceris a shot first. It seems to be helping quite a bit already (only on day 5), but I feel like i'm WIRED. Couldn't sleep worth a darn last night, and have had a TON of nervous energy today. Is this a normal side effect? Or is it more likely just either anxiety flaring up (which I have) or me creating the side effects in my head.

Could be some of both, but Uceris is a steroid, and IMO, the quicker it works the more likely to have systemic effects. It too a few weeks to give me solid benefit, and I had no noticeable side effects. But since you got result fast, it could mean you are absorbing more of it.

Being wired and insomnia are steroid side effects.

Yeah, I had the same thing. Not extreme, like Prednisone, though.

I wish I'd worried less and harnessed all that energy!

Uceris took the edge off my last Prednisone taper, too.
It might be in my imagination, but it seemed to lessen the depression.

I also had this weird anxiety. Like I'd left someone at the airport. Or hurt someone's feelings. Just this back-of-the-mind guilt.

Seems to be a side effect for me every time.

Steroids amplify our often latent/mild psychological issues and also our emotions. We can cry or get angry for seemingly little or no reason at all. If you're prone to even a mild depression or anxiety then those things are multiplied several fold. It's hard to be completely sane while on steroids... Someone posted here a while back that they bought their spouse a Frankenstein cake that said "sorry I've been such a monster lately" due to prednisone. I'll do that my next time...

Yeah, it's not so bad today so maybe it was just imagined or my body is adjusting. But yeah, I cleaned my entire house, cooked dinner for everyone and COULD NOT SHUT UP. Makes sense.

I've been on uceris for a long time now, and I originally bad problems with insomnia. For me, I would be tired all day and it seemed to kick in at night, maybe because of the coating? Well now I take it right before bed and it doesn't affect my sleeping habits at all. Plus I feel more awake during the day. I'm convinced it has to deal with the coating taking longer to break down than regular pred

Just chiming in...I started Uceris a couple weeks ago to try and curb my latest flare. However it didn't seem to be doing much nor did I feel any side effects. My GI yesterday decided to make the switch to Pred to try and get this thing under control. The side effects are definitely worse, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do! Hang in there.

It's been almost a week for me now and I feel a LITTLE better. My GI told me to give it 2-3 weeks to reach the full effect. If this doesn't work, next stop is remicade. It's funny how willing we become to try all the meds we decided weren't an option, once we're miserable enough.

Quality of life is what it's all about with chronic illness. When that quality is minimal the next class of medications seems less daunting.
