I agree with Jonny, biologics might help. I would be very cautious about having surgery when you have activity in the small intestine. UC surgery only involves the colon, the area of the small bowel that is inflamed would remain inflamed, so your symptoms may would persist. They may be less problematic, but if you have inflammation in the small bowel, it's possible you have Crohn's, which means it could continue to attack areas throughout the small intestine and over time you could be back at square one. Was there actual evidence of dysplasia or was his assessment due to having uncontrolled UC? I think I would get a 2nd opinion. Suggesting surgery without even trying biologics is crazy, especially in the case of having activity in the small intestine. I don't like this GI's approach at all.
