Has anyone ever taken food-grade diatomaceous earth for digestive issues? To be clear, I am in no way recommending that anyone try it.
I actually was doing a search today to see if there was any research showing food-grade diatomaceous earth to cause IBD. It was just a crackpot theory I came up with based on nothing. If you are not familiar, diatomaceous earth is basically a powdered silica that has very sharp edges. These edges slice up and irritate the soft bodies of slugs and other garden pests. Food grade diatomaceous earth is approved for use in agriculture. If I am not mistaken, it is found in many wheat products and used freely in our food supply. Anyway, I was surprised to find some people actually recommending taking it as a supplement to HELP Crohn's, UC and IBS. I found this completely counterintuitive. How could something that people use in the garden to kill slugs be good for your guts? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't try it based on my question here, I was just wondering if anyone had come across any legitimate research.
