Chromosone 5 and IBD link!

Hi all

I just found out today that I have a mutation/deletion with chromosome 5, found during testing for my son who is severely autistic and who also has a deletion on chromosome 5. Under the list of diseases associated with mutations on chromosome 5 was inflammatory bowel disease! Strangely enough, when my son was diagnosed age 3, there were two other mothers in my village who both had IBD and sons of a similar age with autism. Of course, my son like many other autistic people have problems with chronic constipation. All very odd!….

there are a bunch of IBD associated gene loci identified for mucosal barrier and others with immune system.

I guess it's easier with my Promethease report. It has a inflammatory bowel diseases category (diseases list).

Hi all. Quincy - I was genetically tested along with my son and his father. Apparently, some autism is associated with an issue on Chromosome 5, but stumbled across the diseases associated with problems on this chromosome. They have identified certain areas of this huge chromosome in connection with autism, but not sure which part is affected in me. Odd that I can't stop visiting the wc and my son never wants to go and is on daily enemas! All rather curious!
