I am an Indian , we live on flat breads , imagine trying to eliminate gluten ( wheat ) from my diet.
No offense Ritu, but we Indians are probably the most arrogant folks when it comes to the eating preferences. I am no different. My GI suggested me removing gluten and casein from my diet for years and I gave her exactly same excuse. It didn't dawn upon us until DS and DW were diagnosed with severe gluten allergy. Since then we removed gluten completely. Now you guess, how miserable we are, esp in the US where we do not have as much variety of non-gluten options. Bottomline, seriously consider removing gluten. Not too sure if there is any real connection, but since removing gluten, our health has improved noticeably.
Secondly, you are using psyllium seed husk powder. Try finding seed powder only. I could not find it personally so I took it from the US for my mom. There has been a lot of discussion about
it on the board as why seed powder is preferred over husk powder.
Thirdly, VSL#3 is great but not enough (at least for me). You get Bifilac in India. Consider adding it to the regimen. Some folks are worried about
S. feacalis in it, but personally I don't care. I usually get a big batch as and when I visit. This time I got 300 capsules. It also contains C. butyricum strain, helps getting more butyrate in your gut. If you can get Miyarisan from ebay (another strain of C. butyricum), it will be plus.
Play around with the food. If you can maintain a food diary, it will help you decide what bothers and what doesn't. While my mom can eat spicy food without any issues (pancolitis for almost 30 years, currently in remission), I do not stand spicy food.
I don't know if its really practical for you to use rectal meds twice a day, as you need to lie down for at least 2 hours after mesalamine (30 minutes after hydrocortisone) for all of the drug to do the job. Otherwise I end up pooping the enema. Your medication list is almost same as mine but recently left out Canasa for the cost issues (yeah, 'developed' country problems). If you happen to poop enema, consider taking dicyclomine/dicycloverine 10mg every night before enema. That will slow down your intestine and it will stay in for whole night.
