Anyone also get a type two diabetes diagnosis?

I had been in remission since 2012. Last Nov I got nailed with a type two diabetes diagnosis. I took metforim and ate a very low carb diet and got my a1c down to 6.2.
I started a flare last month and the doctor blamed the metforim and changed me to januvia. Before that appt I took my blood sugar was 140. :( It's not horrible but higher than I'd had. I admit I held off on the januvia hoping a strict diet would work. It doesn't. My blood sugar is running in the 190's. Pre flare unmedicated I was 150's.
I am wondering if the steroid rectal meds are driving up my Blood sugar. Everytime I try the rowasa I have a bout of cramping and feeling very inflamed.
Someone else said the UC itself will drive up my blood sugar.
Am I just doomed to insulin? I feel so discouraged. All the work I've done to drop my blood sugar from 290's to near normal seems to have flown out the window because my doctor put me on metforim.
Still, I am not convinced the met did it, but she said sometimes met just chips away until pow. So, if that's the case then uhg.
Anyone here been there and done that? Have you had to go on insulin? Did you gain weight? I've worked hard to lose 60 lbs and I don't want it all piling back on.

Metformin will only lower sugars. Did you mean "because doc took you off Metformin". I had Diab-II for years before UC.

I did not notice UC raising sugars, but any steroids did. So possibly some raise form rectal steroids.

Metformin is tricky for UC - both can cause D.

I did not like Januvia. I thought it gave me body aches. Tried it right before UC diag, because we thought Met was the culprit.

My GI said I could do low dose of Met if in remission. But I did not.

Recently I started weekly injection of Trulia, and it cut my blood sugars a lot, let me half my insulin, seemed to improve stool formation (except for 1-2 bouts of Trulia D), and even led to some weight loss.

I am very happy with Trulia.

I was on metforim and got into normal blood sugar range. For 6 months I did great, then about a month ago I started to feel the inflammation start. I started using steroid enema and suppository right away because that helps with the inflamed feeling.
My doctor blamed the met saying I wasn't in a flare. Oh yeah, I am in a flare. Still, she blamed the metforim causing the flare then, and she wants me to give it a month or so to see if my symptoms clear. She also wont give me a referral to a GI, since I have different insurance now and the office wants a referral before making an appt. I am banging my head, I know the difference between simple diarrhea and a UC flare.
I am going to have to see a different doctor. She said she had no idea I had UC, UHG it was that offices hospital that diagnosed me back in 2010. The meds my first GI gave me were in my file.
I do hope it's just the steroids. I weaned last time after my symptoms improved.

Long-term steroid use can cause type ii diabetes.

Yeah, sadly that was one of the reason I quit it as soon as my symptoms improved. I was pre diabetic before UC.
It's awful that the treatment that works for one problems makes the other worse.

That IS awful, I'm sorry. I know sometimes that if you're on Metformin and eat something greasy like fast food, it will make you sick, give you D. Maybe that's why your doctor gave up on it?
If you're not satisfied with your blood sugars, perhaps inquire about a higher dosage of januvia or maybe try a different medicine (I take Onglyza). That made me sad when you said you feel all the work you did has flown out the window. Don't give up, you're obviously a fighter based on what I've read!

Yep! I got steroid-induced diabetes - took them so much that even iv steroids in hospital didn't work! No history of diabetes in my family but kept putting on weight with steroids and then losing it but beaten in the end. I take Gliclazide which seems fine and doesn't affect my uc. Now on Imuran for maintenance which is working though constantly tired and my hair's falling out. Never ending fun! Cx

I was on steroid for at year and diagnosed with type 2 diabetes after that. My doctor prescribed Metformin and I was concern because one of the side effects was diarrhea. I checked with my GI and he did not seem concerned with Metformin but I asked my dr to prescribe Extended release Metformin. I am on metformine for 4-5 months and doing Ok.

I am on 75mg 6mp/day and 4 delzicol/3 times/day for colitis. Overall I am doing ok but see little blood on and off.

I don't think Metformin will cause flare or responsible for colitis. In fact I read other way that it helps IBD
