Transferring Hospitals (

Hi all,

Wondering if any of you British folk have had any experience with transferring your care over to a different hospital, what's the protocol and how long does the process take? I'm moving out of London for a few months and instead of travelling back up here every time I want to transfer to a hospital close to my parents.

I'll also be moving to Canada in November for work, and not sure how this transfer is going to go and what I need to do for that. any advice and suggestions would be great

Hi - transferred from London up to the North West. From the North West to south of France. Quite straightforward each time. In UK you can ask your current consultant for a recommendation or just get a referral to a new specialist once you register with your new GP.

Switching countries should be the same in principle - subject to the idiosyncrasies of different health systems. Difficulty is the transfer of notes - not possible overseas as far as i'm aware ... So get a summary report to take with you when leaving the UK.
