I think you mean an Ileostomy bag, you can visit jpouch.org and read alot about
peoples experience, the vast majority of pouchers are happy with their surgery there is however some, including my self who feel if it aint broken don't try and fix it as in if you feel you can honestly live a happy life with the Ileo you may want to stick with it.
There is no advantage of a jpouch versus a normal colon in my opinion, there are however some benefits of an Ileo over a colon, I wont list them but there are a few. :P
I remember reading I think from a member on the ostomy forum who compared the first few weeks of the jpouch butt burn to the pain of child birth and darn they were right ~Not that I've ever had a child and to offend any women~. Sure you can always go back to the bag which I plan on doing so but again that is a big surgery and nothing to be laughed at.
I'll leave a few experiences of my own::
-Do you like full night sleeps? I think on average a jpoucher will get up ATLEAST once a night, the first few months will be even rougher.
-
-Do you enjoy eating late? Hah.. a lot of pouchers wont eat past a certain time, for me.. if I eat past 6:00 Imma have a rough night.
-I personally avoid certain foods due to butt burn or just very water stools, do you like pizza? Tomato sauce is one of the worst for me as well as citrus juice and fruit.
-Medication free? I originally started my journey with the mind set of being med free, I currently take immodium daily, sometimes pepto bismal and currently on antibitoics for possible pouchitis.
-
-Chronic pouchitis? It's a possibility, I hope you like the taste of metal in your mouth from the flagyl antibiotics you may have to take regularly.
Just a few things to think about
, I feel the jpouch for whatever reason is pushed a little too hard by the medical community, as in an Ileo is the end of the world when from personal experience I'd of never went through it all, just think deep down to your self is all this will worth the risk to poop out your butt? Eh.. gimme the bag back no one that I didn't want to know about
even knew I had one.
If there is one thing you take from this it's simply I wish everyone who reads this does is study, research and more research asto whether the jpouch surgery is worth it, or keeping the Ileo is the correct choice. I really feel we should spend a lot more time researching both sides to make sure we come up with the right choice rather then jumping into what someone else thinks is best for us. Should we really spend a few days only looking at the possibilities for something that will affect the rest of our lifes? Surely not, instead of days spend weeks, or even months looking at all options!
