Any advice on how to hold in enemas. I usually don't have a problem but as my symptoms get worse, it's harder. I'm finding I can only empty half a bottle. I know something is better than nothing...

Besides the usual warm up the bottle, squeeze out air and lay still and quiet... I can't think of anything. I can recommend maybe also adding in a little steroid foam to help minimize the inflammation so the enemas will get easier to hold.

Bad inflammation makes holding in enemas more difficult. Do one half at a time if it helps. A steroid suppository or enema (if you have any) might heal your inflammation a bit, enough to make the mesalamine enema easier.

For what it's worth, I'd also lay still and try not to think about
it. I was determined that it was all going in and would last all night. I'd read or watch tv to distract myself...

I find it helps you f I'm really tired when I administer them. The quicker I drift off to sleep the better. I find if I'm laying there fidgety it's much more difficult.

You are doing everything right and the suggestions are spot on.
If you have a "better side" or prefer your back get into the habit of starting there.
Yes warmer body temp enema is better.
Maybe lubricate the enema tip so no tightening up of muscles.
Put your fave relaxing music on.
Go slow, add more, go slow and stop when needed and even wait 5 minutes before trying more.
Not unusual to only be able to only get half done when severely flaring.
Victory! when you can do 100%
Once your rectum knows it is helpful not harmful it will become much, much easier and become a habit.
Good luck.

I found deep breathing to be helpful. Also, I'd try to get in a position and stay there. Moving around more would cause me to have to go to the bathroom.

All great suggestions. You could use suppositories during the day to help with the inflammation.
Using an antispasmodic could be of some help...an hour before bedtime.

I have a similar problem holding the enemas in. What I find works the best is to lay on your side for like 15-20 minutes and then I'm fine. I usually watch tv during this to keep my mind off of it. Good luck !!!

I try and do most of that. I do put it in when I'm in the bathroom and then run to bed and lay on my side for 30 minutes. I try and do the slow breathing and not think about
it. I had an accident 1 min after I put it in the other day. Maybe I'll shoot for 1/2 a bottle. Don't have any refills on Canasa supps.

Try putting it in while already in bed, the less moving around the better. Also, better to use half and retain it than pump the whole thing in just to have it rocket back out.

You might try listening to a hypnotherapy relaxation recording.
