OT are u watching the news from Nice?

It really breaks my heart to see how much hatred people have for each other. I hope all of this violence ends soon.

Terror attacks are basically copycat patterned behaviour by tribal-minded 'losers' who wish to gain prominence through spectacular violence. Really sad for the victims and their families. And hope this does not result in dehumanisation of certain segments of society which will further feed a sense of victimisation - fodder for the socially dislocated - and the cycle keeps repeating itself. We need a more embracing world in terms of foreign policy and including everyone in quality education programs and the humanities and social sciences.

So sick and tired of this crap. Somehow this needs to be brought under control-- I wish I knew how. So terrible.

The U.S. has not encouraged foreign countries to revive the Crusades. Extremists can easily arm themselves with all kinds of weapons these days EVERYWHERE and also exploit social media to recruit followers and organize militant/terrorist activities. Many of the issues have been well put.
There is also the modern ability to use weapons, and machinery, to cause damage in a world that has grown exponentially in population. Pretty much anyone with a grudge can find a crowded area and use modern tools, without any actual human contact, to carry out attacks. The guy in this case was said to have become depressed following the breakdown of his marriage, and financial problems.

I've always thought that the Polish security forces are idiotic and unprepared for anything (we have never had any terrorist attack or shootings at schools etc, Poland is now probably the safest country in Europe), however it is impossible that the Polish police could let any even small vehicle (not speaking about a lorry!) pass without thorough check during a big public event. I can't believe that the French police could be so careless and without any imagination. It's so sad, today i've read that the two beautiful Polish girls, sisters, less than 20yrs old, were on vacations in Nice and were killed in the attack

What iPoop posted resonates the most. Maybe people know this, don't know but a lot of Syria's troubles started with water shortages, so yeah there's that.

Whether you support or don't support our POTUS here in the US, what he said after the horrific Florida nightclub mass shootings is absolutely true: the lonewolf is the most dangerous. The mass murderer in Paris, another lone wolf, a malcontent with an ax to grind. These people are being radicalized by extremist social media and cues from ignorance, such as racial discrimination and being marginalized as inherently evil. I dunno, maybe we need an army of Anonmyous type groups, to take on this new type of war, it's proving to be deadly for everyday civilians. And, I am an ardent Bill Maher fan, don't always agree with everything he says but he's right in saying that that the Arab world in Middle East countries and other places with radical Islam need to start helping take the trash.

Ewa, did you find more info on the Polish sisters? I read in Le Monde that they were ages 20 & 21 and had travelled to Nice on vacation from southern Poland with 2 other sisters, who survived.
