I'm doing much better. Did not do another stool sample. They saw no need. Now on 60mg of prednisone and started 50 mg of Imuran, and taking 5mg morphine pills if and when i need it. I am down to two pills a day. Pain in gut is almost gone. Just dealing with some nasty haemorrhoids which are also shrinking Thank God.

My husband has been home off work and I was on bed rest for three days. Which means he chased the kids and I got to sleep through the night and get off my feet the last three days and also means I haven't been in pain and running to the bathroom 3x a night.

Dr. said to come in tomorrow to see him if i was NOT better, I plan to call and get instructions on what to do about the prednisone. I also want the green light to go finish what is left of our vacation. I plan to pack and cook soft, easy foods for me and take it as easy as possible.

I see him again in less than a few weeks for the colonoscopy on Aug. 9th. I'm hoping and praying that because my pain is better and there is no more blood in stool the last few days that I'm back on my way to healing. I think I left this flare go on way too long before getting help. I also think that the 40mg of prednisone and fast taper was too fast. I don't know. I just NEED to get back into remission. I plan to see a naturopath and dietician to talk about the IBD, supplements and stuff.

I am happy to hear things are headed in the right direction. Sometimes people need a higher dose of prednisone to jump start healing. I think the best advice I can give you, is to take your time tapering off - you need to give the imuran time to work. 50mg is a low dose, I am sure you will get blood work over the next few weeks and they will adjust accordingly. The problem with imuran, for me, was not side-effects necessarily, it was the amount of time it takes to get stabilized. It can take 2 or 3 months... So take your time, better to take a little longer to taper, than to let the inflammation get a hold again. Hopefully when you get off the prednisone, you can stay off for a very long time. Many people have long-term and very positive results with imuran/6mp. Good luck!!!

Thanks so much. Honestly, the Imuran scares the crap out of me... but I have babies that need me and i Need to get better. There are risks and side affects for everything. Short term goal is to get well again, thats for sure. Yes i am to get blood work every two weeks now that I'm on the Imuran. We will see how it goes.

Trying to worry about the colonoscopy coming up. ugh. smhair

c-scope is a piece of cake - off to la la land and it's over - glad things have improved - sometimes you just have to take big steps to get to where you want to be -

interesting possibility of seeing a dietician & naturopath - can you maybe schedule an appointment with both at the same time ? i might pay to attend that event wink please report back on their recommendations !

We're all a little nervous when starting a new medication like Imuran. I was equally worried when starting 6mp (an equivalent medication), I was on it two years without a side effect. Benefits always out weigh the potential risks.
