Has anyone used this before? I tried Remicade and it definitely did not help.

I was wondering people's thoughts and opinions because it is new. Also, I was able to drink on the weekends with Lialda and Remicade. Can I drink on this medication as well? I know I can't drink on 6mp but I want to have a normal social life on the weekends when I feel good.

Any advice is helpful!

There are quite a few threads here on Entyvio. I tried it as my last resort and it never worked. I did drink alcohol on it but never heavy amounts. I've also had alcohol on 6MP but maybe a beer or two here and there. This was posted on a chemocare website:

"In general, drinking alcoholic beverages should be kept to a minimum or avoided completely. You should discuss this with your doctor"

I drank with 6-mp, my GI said it was ok as long as I was going for regular blood work. If you want to drink then it might be worth a further conversation with your GI.

I've been fortunate enough to be able to drink while on Flagyl, some people have bad reactions to Flagyl and alcohol.

For Flagyl, all my docs have said to avoid it, my pharmacy and it's the first warning on my script bottle. I'm on it currently and my surgeon said if I want a beer to stop flagyl for 3 days. I didn't want to chance it as I've read it can cause life threatening complications

I drank on 6mp and it was no big deal.

Flagyl, they said never to drink on that or you will get sick - and that scared me from even trying a single sip of alcohol.

Gordon, did you stop flagyl and go back on, or are you still on the same course? How is everything going for you?

I tried entyvio without luck, but many people have luck with it. I was a nonresponder, I didn't respond to any biologics, so for me, it was sort of a long shot that it would work. The statistics from their studies weren't really all that exciting. It was something like 40-45% have luck. Lower than Remicade, but still well worth a shot. I drank on it, not in excess, but I was able to be social. Ask your doctor.

I'm sure an occasional drink while on 6mp, remicade, or entyvio is fine. Anything in moderation. Drink yourself stupid and your uc is bound to be very unhappy AND you'll have a hangover. Now there's an ugly mix...

Entyvio didn't work for me. I tried it for 28 weeks I think. But keep the faith. What doesn't work for one may work for you!

Since I don't drink I can't answer your question but I can say Entyvio has been a lifesaver for me
Have been on it for 2 years now get an infusion every 8 weeks
My UC is under control
Not perfect , I still have to watch what I eat salads are a no no and too much sugar goes right thru me
But on the whole I have a life now turn

Hi,

Just a new member chiming in. I was on Remicade a couple of years back until I developed some breathing problem as a possible side effect which made it difficult for me to continue and ofc I ended up flaring badly.

Then I went on Entyvio for a few months until my insurance died. One good thing about Entyvio was that, the infusion lasted only 20-30mins long and it did help. It took a while for it to actually bring me into full remission though.

I wouldn't touch any hard liquors if I were in your shoes. Drinking made me flare out and I regretted each time when it triggered. Hey but once again, everyone's different so...

I stopped after the two week course of Cipro and Flagyl and some of my symptoms started to creep back in. When I saw my surgeon again we started both again but at a low dose, Cipro once a day and a lower dose of Flagyl twice a day instead of 500mg 3x. We are trying to determine if the pouchitis is chronic. If my symptoms come back after this course he will scope my pouch

That stinks. I am sorry to hear it. I really hope it's not chronic and that you can get it figured out. You certainly don't need this :(

I think it is only for 30-40% of people get sick from mixing Flagyl and alcohol. For most people they just feel nauseous or even vomit. My GI said to try one drink with Flagyl and if I felt nauseous then not drink because I would probably get sick from it. He also knew that I was healthy enough to drink and didn't have any heart issues.

There are other antibiotics that work for pouchitis than Flagyl and Cipro. Augmentin works really well for me. Also pepto really helps my pouch and has enabled me to reduce my use of antibiotics.

I'm also taking VSL double strength twice a day. My surgeon said that is usually the first course in treatment for pouchitis

Some GI's also use EnteraGam as a treatment for pouchitis.

Also be careful of Thrush, it can mimic a flare/pouchitis.
