I usually do deadlift, squats, bench, rows, and standing shoulder press as my main exercises and being on Prednisone definitely made it harder to go back to what I used to lift.
Are you doing stronglifts 5X5? I am 10 weeks in on that program, but, unfortunately, beginning a UC flare as of last week. Mild symptoms but definitely UC, not a stomach bug. I am wondering if its all the heavy compound lifting making me too run down? I'm exhausted all the time from the heavy workouts. I was thinking about
lowering the weight on my lifts and letting myself recover a bit in hopes I can get in front of this flare up. Any further advice you can give based on your experience and or knowledge about
pred/working out would be appreciated. If I end up on pred I still plan on working out with lighter weight.Well, I've been lifting on and off for the past 9 years. Flares popping out here and there always hindered my strength gains. It's been very hard maximizing my gains consistently. I haven't been following any specific program lately or the past few months because I lift because I enjoy it. It became more of a self gratifying hobby after work now.
If you're tiring yourself out by lifting heavy weights when you are not in full remission, it's going to make things worse or you'll be making minimal strength gains.
I'm sure you've heard of this saying before, "Stimulate don't annihilate"
This is what you should aim to do. Take a step back.
And I take something called R-ALA for fatigue it helps me out greatly. I am not sure if it will help you out but it definitely helps me out with feeling sluggish from lifting the day before. Regular ALA never really helped me though.
There's a way to counter the effects of Prednisone catabolizing your muscles, making your bones weaker, and feeling run down. But I don't think you will want to take this route.
No. it's nothing illegal but requires an
open minded gi doc.
