Pregnant

Hi Guys Just wanted to let you know that I've now discovered I'm pregnant and delighted! :) My husband and I only decided to start trying and it has happened straight away thank god. I only got into remission start of May from Remicade and had 3 infusions, the last and final one being in June. The 100mg Azathioprine I am taking seems to be okay now keeping me in remission, but the remicade made me feel 'cured' in a matter of hours considering I was in a major flare. I worry about taking the aza whilst pregnant but the gastro said the risks of flaring and so much worse. After a year and a half of constant flaring, I was worried that I would not be able to conceive that easily. I hope I can continue to feel symptom free throughout my pregnancy.

Congrats. Many moms have had happy and healthy babies while on azathioprine. The health of mom is very important during pregnancy, so you want to have your uc under control during that period as it provides the best results for you and your child. We have a few mons here who were on that medication during their pregnancy, no problems. Good luck!

I can't speak to the meds or UC while pregnant since I didn't develop it until my little guy was 3, but make sure your gi and ob communicate through the whole pregnancy. Kids are life changers, but I am so glad I have them!

Congratulations! At the advice of my GI, I quit all medication upon learning I was pregnant last September. And, as you can guess, it was a disaster! I flared horribly at 14 weeks, had to be hospitalized and it took 7 weeks to get my flare under control. I was then on prednisone for the remainder of my pregnancy. Whether or not it is related, I ended up having my daughter prematurely at 34 weeks. (In my mind I blame the state of my health and the steriods.) So, stay medicated. It is definitely worrying staying on the azathioprine and sometimes I wonder would I flare if I stopped taking it. But AMac10 listening to your experience that is what makes me in some way reassured about continuing taking the meds. They are keeping me in remission and feeling great, I just pray for a healthy baby next year!
