So my dr wants to take me off of imuran and try just treating my colitis with Humira only. He wants to do this because he's concerned due to my bilirubin has been elevated the whole time I've taken imuran. I hope I do ok I'm so nervous to stop imuran. He doesn't want long term damage to my liver so trying to trust him but yeah super scared

good luck, chrissy!!! you never know. it might work out fine. try to stay positive.

i'd be nervous, too, though. i've been on a combo for a while now and am scared to change anything. even if imuran helps only 1%, i don't want to be in the hospital all the time.

Are you stopping cold turkey, or could you taper and slowly reduce your dose?

Immunomodulators are slow initially working and just as slow getting out of your system. It'd be a minimum of 3 months to get out of your system.

I hope it goes well stopping imuran. Are you still with the same gi? If you are then yes I'd trust him. He's pretty good and knowledgeable

I wish my doctor would take this route. Every appointment I ask him the time line on how long I'd be on both Imuran and humira together, and he always tells me we'll eventually get off Imuran. But when?! I personally don't believe my Imuran plays a part in my almost remission (Feels like remission no symptoms. Just waiting for colonoscopy to confirm) because it never worked to keep me out of a flare or keep my symptoms in control.

Thanks ontheflipside! I hope it is too. Yes my dr is awesome just that he cared enough about me to keep my liver safe and he called me himself about trying to stop imuran. I feel lucky to have a good dr for sure

My husband was on 6MP, which I think is similar to Imuran, and his liver levels of whatever were too high. So doc reduced the dosage of 6MP and added allopurinol and he was able to continue with the 6MP. You may want to ask your GI about that option.
