Does anybody else get dizzy, feel sick, tired and get a weird pressure in the middle of your chest when you take immodium?

at times i get a funky gut sensation, but it doesn't last -

how many times have you experienced these symptoms ? do you get them all at the same time ?

I get these symptoms about 2 hours after taking it and all the symptoms come at once in waves, itll get bad then get bearable again and so on..

How much and how often are you taking Imodium?

is it the regular or the multi symptom?

you could be sensitive to the anti-gas part of multi-symptom. otherwise, the slowing of motility may be experienced as a pressure on the lower stomach and some feeling of discomfort.

I only take 2mg (one) a day, it also makes me sleep for hours.. Its just the classic normal imodium

These symptoms im getting with taking imodium have only started fairly recently. Not sure why.
Im in a mini flare right now (going 5 or more times per day) and I have to go out and do things.
Its never caused me these issues before

Are you using generic or brand imodium?

Can you give us the nonmedicinal ingredients please.

Immodium is quite dangerous for an OTC medication. It acts on the gut by fitting into an opioid receptor and slowing things down the same way prescription pain killers can.

Use it very sparingly.

Brand imodium by jassen.
Ingredients are
Lactose, maize starch, talc and
magnesium stearate (E572).
Tablet coating colours:
Titanium dioxide (E171), black ferrous oxide (E172),
yellow ferric oxide (E172), indigo carmine (E132),
erythrosine (E127) and gelatin.

I doubt I am allergic to any of these ingredients or colours, Ive used this medication for years with no trouble.
Its worn off a bit now however I feel a bit strange, tired and still have mild achy abdominal pain.

Hi Richard, I do use it very sparingly, I take the minimum dose and only take one a day. Never over that as it makes me constipated

Doesnt seem anything in them that would cause you problems.....one a day shouldn't cause problems unless you now have a sensitivity to it.

What other meds are you using? What supplements?

I think I may just be very sensitive to loperamide, the pain is still here unfortunately and still havent had a BM yet since 8am yesterday. I should be fine. Ill ask my GI about the reaction soon.

Had an xray and my colon was pretty swollen prior to immodim and that made it worse, admitted now and having iv hydrocortisone

My bowel was generally quite swollen and thats why it was giving me so much severe pain and it may have ruptured if I hadnt gone on the steroids.
Will be organising a total colectomy to make an ileostomy in a few weeks, meeting up with surgeons whilst being an inpatient here in hospital.
Steroids are definetly reducing the inflammation a bit but my colitis has been described as steroid resistant so it may wear off.
Thats all thats been happening really..

Wow...definitely serious. Good that you're in the hospital and planning for surgery.

Please let us know the details of when..etc and how you are doing.

Those could be classic signs of a small/partial bowel blockage but I would have guessed something else like a flare or reaction to a medication.

Have you tried Biologicals? They usually try them before surgery, I know that you are in the UK so they may be a little different. I liked my ileostomy, I felt so much better after they removed my colon. I only wish that I did it sooner.
