Yup, have to do the dreaded prep tomorrow. My 2 year colonoscopy is Monday morning. I always have such anxiety over the prep!!! I am such a baby. This time I am drinking the fluid as the pills last time made me nauseous but now I am second guessing my decision. rolleyes Only you guys understand this feeling.. Having to go through this and not really mentioning to anyone(other than DH) what you have to do. No one under 50 goes through this and definitely not every 1-2 years. I know, we are lucky to not have cancer and to have this amazing test to catch it if we do. I do appreciate it, but it doesn't make the prep any easier. I got anti-nausea pills this time, so I am hoping that makes it a tiny bit better. Also this time they want me to do a split prep, so I have to drink the second half before 5am and then drop my kids at school and drive an hour.. Also, not looking forward to that!! EEEK! Ok, whining over...well not, but at least for now. smilewinkgrin

Last time I did the prep it wasn't too bad. I ate very lightly 2 days before so the clean out went quickly. Still had problems drinking all that gatorade though. I have a scope in Dec and plan to split the prep into half gatorade and half water. I don't mind drinking a lot of water, but gatorade if too sweet for me.

What time is your scope? I think I would get up earlier to do the 2nd half. Good luck!!!

My scope is at 9:30. I don't remember having to split the prep like this last time.. Sounds very risky to me to do the second half in the am. Should I just do it all at night? I don't really want to get up at 2 or 3 am to prep. I would prefer to start at 3:00 pm and then do the second around 11 or 12. What do you guys think?

I think you would be ok doing the 2nd half then. I just looked at my prep instructions and it says to do the 2nd half about 7 hours before the scope time. That would make yours @ 2:30, but I don't think it would be a problem to do it at midnight.

My last scope was at 9 am and I took my second dose st 8 pm the night before. I wouldn't want to be getting up to take the second round in the middle of the night. Good luck and whine away. Prepping is horrible.

Is it Suprep? I just did it last week and it wasn't that bad. I got some grape Propel powder and mixed it with water and refrigerated it the night before. I also refrigerated the Suprep. Then I poured the Suprep into the cup, added the Propel and topped off with a little Sprite.

I sipped it with a long straw and had a cup of ginger ale to take a small sip after each sip of Suprep. I also sucked on a lemon slice if the taste really got to me. You could also lick a Lifesaver or Jolly Rancher. I also stood up while drinking it and walked around. It helps to get rid of the full feeling.

The first round got most out of me and I even called and said that everything was coming out clear and asked if I needed the second dose. They said I should and in hindsight it's good that I did. I didn't need as many rounds on the toilet with the second dose. I took it 5 hours before the procedure but mine was in the afternoon.

I didn't have any discomfort or nausea. There was no cramping. It was much better than I had anticipated.

OK, so the new "split" procedure is because of polyps. I am going to do midnight instead of 2 am. I think I"ll be ok.
This was in the FAQ:I'm afraid to take the second dose of laxative before I leave home for a morning procedure:
The second dose of the preparation does not have the purgative effect as the first dose. The reason to take the second dose of the preparation as close as possible to the procedure time is to cleanse the right colon where flat polyps are seen. Studies have shown that only 10% of patients will need to stop at a restroom during their trip to their procedure.

Quincy - WATCH the monitor?? NO! I am out cold. The only time I haven't been put out was for my very first sig. The cramping was horrible(I have a high pain threshold, but really feel pain) Can't believe you watch yours. You are superhuman. Good to see you still on here. :)

Lol....I'm still drugged, but I want to see what's going on. Yes, it's still sometimes owie going around the splenic flexure.

I can totally relate & understand why you want to do 2nd phase of prep no later than midnight. The gastros always seem to conjure up some additional reason to keep us on the throne overnight, which is complete agony! Grrrr! Will Uma knock you out with Propofol? The med center where my gastro practices requires that now, too-- it started around 2012. I was disappointed at not being able to watch the monitor (per Quincy!), but having a clear thought process right after the procedure seemed a good trade-off from the "twilight meds". I'm not sure what she uses to knock me out but she changed it 2 years ago as the one before I felt the effects for 24 hours later and I told her it was WAY too strong. The one last time was perfect. I was completely out, but woke up after and had no dizziness at all that day. I am just dreaming on an In N Out burger right now. Sooo hungry. Starting my first round of prep. My hubby finally took the kids out of the house(I need to be alone in my misery!), so ready to start chugging. Wish me luck... I HATE THIS SO MUCH!

I sent my kids to my parents to spend the night when I was prepping last month. I couldn't deal with them and the prep, plus having to leave before the school bus arrived to go to the hospital. I am so glad they moved near me 7 years ago when my youngest was born. Hope you prep in peace:)

I wish I had finally support. My parents were visiting last week and left Saturday morning and I told my mom that I had my c-scope on Monday and had to prep on Sunday. She didn't say a word and sent me a text this morning "Thinking of you. Not a fun day for you. Hopefully DH has been able to keep the kids occupied". SERIOUSLY??? I can't even make this crap up. I have the least family, family. Hug your mom tight momto2boys. I would give anything to have that...

OK, so the first 1/2 of the prep was HORRIBLE, but I got it down without puking. I was scared to wait until 5am to do the second dose, stayed up working myself into an anxiety fit and finally got myself to chug the first glass of the second dose at 1:30 am and...PUKED it up. I could not do it... I went to bed and got up and did chug one more glass before going to the appt. I wasn't completely clear when I had my apt, but the doc said she "cleaned me out"...haha... and it was fine. :) OMG...this stuff is so nasty!! I will have to remember I need 2 anti-nausea pills, not just one if doing a split prep and #2 I will do the pills from now on. I just can't do that salty nastiness. You guys are SOOOO amazing to do it.

Now for the day of: #1 I woke up during the procedure...***??? They put me back under, but OUCH. I then woke up in the recovery room and behind the curtain next to me the lady was throwing things and swearing about how she woke up during hers too and how it was completely inappropriate(different doctor) She slammed out of there...so mad. My husband saw her and she was still swearing in the lobby. What are the chances we both didn't have enough sedative?? Weird! Anyone else have that happen??

The best things that day were #1 she did my bloodwork at the same time and said if all was ok I didn't need to drive up to her office in SF until next year for my annual, #2 she said I could wait THREE years until my next cscope...YIPPEEE!!!! #3 In N out burger with a chocolate shake and LONG nap immediately following the drive home. Man the 36 hour fast was harder this time around... I was starving and that made me feel so sick!

As for my scope... the results are all good! FINAL PATHOLOGIC DIAGNOSIS

A. Cecum, "polyp," biopsy: No significant pathologic abnormality.

B. "Cecum ascending", biopsy: No significant pathologic abnormality.

C. Rectosigmoid, biopsy: Focal active colitis.

Yeah!! So happy. Man I really work myself up around these things. Literally start dreading them at least 6 months before. So glad I don't have to think about this for a long time! If anyone else is going through it right now, hang in there and remember you can get through anything you need to and now...it is a distant memory.

Thanks for listening to me moan and whine guys. You really are the best!

The fasting before is cruel punishment.....i did it only once and I was horribly nauseated from that, making the prep and scope even worse. Never again!

Good to hear things went well in the end...lol....

Did the doc have you step up the rowasa?

So you did not have any polyps, right? That must be the case if Uma said you can wait 3 yrs for your next scope: congratulations!!!!!! Hopefully by then she'll Rx a better prep for you that is NOT salty & nauseating. We'll be here for you in the meantime! / Old Hat (36 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Awesome news!
My parents aren't always super helpful with my kids anymore, but they moved near me (8 hours away from home) a week before my youngest was born almost 7 years ago.
We really depend on them when I am feeling crappy and have medical stuff. That is the one reason they never complain about having to watching my kids. If I have to work odd hours and my husband is also working they tend to groan about it.
