Holiday wishes and thanks to Healing Well

Now that we in the US are in the whirlwind of holidays from Thanksgiving through the New Year I wanted to send all my fellow UC'ers my best wishes for 2017.

It has been a tumultuous year worldwide, with events beyond our control causing tension beyond our everyday run-of-the-mill UC anxieties. People in my community are more short-tempered than they have been previously. Politics has played a large part of course in the US but other countries are also on edge.

UC makes us more self-"centered" (I use that term non-negatively) because our symptoms make us that way.
But we cannot help be aware of events around us, good or bad.

Life is what it is when we have UC. One day at a time, sometimes one hour at a time when flaring.
My current symptoms are much better than my worst so life is good for me.
This forum offers hope for many who can read of others like them, we are not alone, not solely dependent on what our GI's tell us. I am so grateful for that.

How has Healing Well UC forum benefitted you? (No I am not connected to the forum at all except as a poster)
HW has helped me by reading what non-traditional treatments others have tried, succeed and failed with. And I have done the same, posted what I've tried and failed or succeeded. I reached remission (or a close facsimile) which I never did through standard RX protocol. I am grateful for that beyond words.

Healing Well is important to me because only people that have experienced the ups and downs of this disease can truly appreciate the complexities of living with UC on a day to day basis. It is not a stand alone disease, people can often develop other complications linked to IBD in other parts of the body, and that can be terrifying, and so HW is a good resource, especially for newly diagnosed people.

I appreciate the time people give to the forum, their advice, as I never feel like I can totally go with what my GI says, and I like the affirmation of second opinions.

Happy holidays everyone. Healingwell is great as Ulcerative Colitis is an invisible illness that can be very isolating. It's great to have everyone here who truly "get it" and listens to us vent when we're most frustrated, people who offer us thoughtful suggestions for us to try and improve our situations (often thoughts from outside the box, that we might not have thought of ourselves), and you all offer encouragement and support when we need it the very most. Here's to hoping 2017 is the best year for us all, full of remissions and stability with out UC. Cheers!
