Fever's

Welcome to the forum. I'm hoping it's a mild/low grade fever? What's your temp?

My first inclination is to say you might have an infection or flu in addition to ulcerative colitis, as that is certainly possible. I did some searching on the forum here and others claimed to have mild grade fevers during flares, as you have. I found some other sites that claimed mild grade fevers are possible uc symptoms, certainly not the most common one. Nausea seems to be more common, some times to the point of throwing up.

Important though is severe fevers (especially combined with other symptoms) might be suggestive of emergency situations like toxic megacolon or a bowel perforation. Those require immediate, urgent care.

It's amazing how few people seem to have fevers as an important symptom. I had regular fevers for many years, and it definitely wasn't the flu or anything like that - it was just the Crohn's. They ranged from low grade to trying-to-kill-me grade. Steroids always knocked the fevers on the head, at least for a while.

I'd say fevers were actually my worst symptom in many ways - they were just so freaking debilitating. Also, not to worry you, but they seem to be a sign of more systemic or severe disease. When you were diagnosed, did they say if it was mild, moderate or severe? I'd kinda be surprised if you were having regular fevers (that didn't have another cause) with mild UC, but anything is possible I presume.

the Dr rated my inflammation at about 6/10, but not really sure what he meant by that, my fever's were almost always feeling like they were going to kill me but they only last about 2 hours then i'd sleep the worst of it off feel like death for the rest of the day then start it all again 2/3 days later rinse and repeat. since the roids thing's are alot better olny time will tell still finding my feet with all this, I do worry that this is forever tho don't know how other people have dealt with that but its a bit daunting

Just the 2 i mentioned earlier, the big test will be when i come down off the roids i'll get to see if the the maintenance med's are working but only time will tell cheers for the comments and hope everything is good with all of you,

Annabelle, 99.3*C is not usually considered a fever. Normal temp is 98.6*C +/-1*C.

"Although a fever could be considered any body temperature above the normal 98.6 F (37 C), medically, a person is not considered to have a significant fever until the temperature is above 100.4 F (38.0 C). Most fever is beneficial, causes no problems, and helps the body fight off infections"
