Suppositories & enemas - increasing bowel movements?

Hi all,

Just wanted to see if anyone else has had this experience.

Recently I've started doing one pentasa suppository every morning and one 4g salofalk enema at night to try and stamp out my last and very persistent symptom: blood.

Before I started this routine I was down to one very formed bowel movement per day, little to no urgency, but still a bit of blood on 1g pentasa tablet nightly.

After a few days on this new rectal regime though I'm finding that I now need to go twice per day (still well formed bowel movement) and sometimes In the morning I never feel completely empty due to the enema. Im able to retain the enema all night with no problems though.

I have noticed in the past that when I took the suppository in the morning I also needed to go twice per day.

Is this normal? Is it possibly just because I'm putting stuff up there twice per day that it's over stimulating my bowels?

My opinion: it's better to have no blood even if your BM's have increased a little.

Rectal inflammation can inhibit BM's so you may be experiencing a "new normal" with less rectal inflammation or the rectal meds may be making improvements and you'll go back to your old normal. When I had more rectal inflammation and used suppositories in the AM it def. made BM happen, so yes "stimulated" is a way to put it. But in the long run rectal meds do a lot of good.
